  1. I headed down to BSSP yesterday to take advantage of the more autumn like weather. The sky was clear and the temperature was cool. I got to the park around 7:30 am. There were quite a few fishermen along the spillway and the stream down to the hatchery outfall. Above the whistle bridge there were a few fishermen and the water was running clear. In front of the whistle bridge there were not as many trout that I have normally seen in this section of the stream. With the clear water I was using 2# P-line fishing line. Some folks were catching a few trout on vigorously worked small jigs. I caught a couple on white/salmon 1/16 oz marabou jigs. One fish was over 12 inches in length. Once they stopped responding to the marabou jig, switched to a pink/yellow/white glo-ball and caught a few more including this 13 inch rainbow. I caught several trout on a John deere microjig with the largest fish being just a bit under 16 inches in length. When fishing the small jigs or glo-balls most fish will react by circling or a straight out rush to the bait and not a strike and pull the line, then they just take the bait into their mouths then spit it immediately back out. So the best way to catch the fish was to anticipate the strike, and set the hook when the bait disappears or the trout flares it's gills. I was planning on fishing a few other streams/rivers, so I only fished BSSP for two and a half hours, caught eleven trout, and left with three for the table. All in all a great day on the stream.

    What's Cooking?

Tonight was chicken thighs that I made into a chicken korma. Served it over jasmine infused basmati rice. Side was curried japanese eggplant with onion and minced garlic.
  5. Since I am most likely to pair them wirh a fine white wine or an aged silver sake they would be steamed with asian microgreens☺!
  6. Great looking bass and hybrids in your early post! Besides the hybrids I am most excited about your other fish. One man's bait is another's tropht☺! Are you catching these shad and skipjacks from the bank?
  7. I like the Billethead's gooseberry jam☺!
  8. Hoping to get out somewhere this weekend. We have had a couple of good rains hopefully can find some interesting mushrooms and maybe some for the table☺. I'll post any interesting photos.
  9. Also they are ounce for ounce one of the strongest fighting fish out there☺! Next time I catch a couple (hundred) I'll let you know how they taste☺!
  10. Nice looking fish Oneshot! Have you been having any luck on redhorse recently? Or have you been plagued again this year with trout bites☺?

    What's Cooking?

I don't complain about a good thing☺! Enjoy your trip Marty!
  12. Is it too early to get excited about only having 50 to 60 beetles in our trap today? I haven't had an over flowing trap in several days. Hopefully we are nearing the end of the beetles☺.

    What's Cooking?

RPS Sounds like a bad time. Sorry to hear about the lab trials. I am no longer a bachelor which meams that I did not have to cook tonight. My betterhalf and oldest daughter picked up tuna steaks, zucchini, summer squash, and a mix of fingerling potatoes. Tuna was encrusted with panko, roasted pine nuts and sesame seeds that were chopped, S&P and mixed with the panko.
  14. Phil here I thought you were trying get a bunch of crusty fisherman to get in touch with their sensitive sides☺. It was either that or a way to engage our kids with this forum in response to reading through the kids don't get out much thread.

    What's Cooking?

That looks really good RPS! A nice summer dish.
  16. Stripers, white and yellow bass are true basses. Also darters are in the perch family. Like that is a surprise that I know that☺!
  17. That is a pig. I wonder if it was there all along or got dumped in by the flooding. I thought that I had seen browns outside the hatchery runs in the overflow areas. JHK would love to have an encounter with that kind of fish the next time we fish Taney☺. Couldn't imagine what kind of fight that would be at night.

My wife gets them from the Amish. She gets 5 to 6 lbs for $3! Love them pickled or just cooked with S&P☺.

    What's Cooking?

BH With his caprese salad got me hankerin for a similar salad☺. Unfortunately the tomatoes that I wanted to use just haven't ripened yet. Had to use our ripe cherries. For dinner was pork chop amd beets. Have the second for tomorrow's lunch☺.
  20. Why does that Carly Simon song keep going through my head when I look at this grapefruit sized tomatoes? "Annticipaation. Is makin' me late. It's keepin' me waitin'." How long does a man have to wait for a mater sammich?
  21. Throughout the video I kept waiting to here about their special bait that went to 11☺! Great video. Commentary was very much like Spinal Tap.
  22. QB The worse bunch of fish innards, heads, and fins I've seen around a boat ramp was during paddlefish season. Had to have been 30 to 40 fish "cleaned" around the ramp we fished from last season. Pretty gross.
  23. The creek that I fished on Sat could easily get overfished. I don't dislike folks keeping fish for the table. Need to get more folks to change their mindset that you don't need to keep more fish than you can eat in a meal. No reason to keep a cooler full of fish each time they go out. Sure everyone wants the credit of catching your limit, but you don't need to keep them all. I really am an advocate of the In-Fisherman idea of selective harvest. Keep what you can eat in a meal and keep those that are the mid sized fish. Let the big ones go to continue to breed and populate the system you are fishing.
  24. We'll have to see what we can do. Planning on a trip through Arkansas in two weeks. Hope to fish a couple of times during that trip. May be Sept to get to Taney maybe sooner.
  25. JHK Too bad that you couldn't hit the water on your trip. Would have like to see you put a notch in another state on your "trout" quest. Like you said at least there was good food☺!
