  1. We're back at it again tonight after the rain. Still running just a bit of water, but keeps a nice flow for how we're fishing. Still a bit slow, but making up for it again with nice size fish, nabbed a nice 18in male bow and a 17in brown so far.
  2. Fishing was a bit slower than what I was hoping last night, the ones we did catch we're all healthy solid fish though. We switched over to fly rods at dawn, fished the early morning midge hatch with little success on top water despite the trout surfacing everywhere. Must be easier for them to eat the live ones. Not a whole lot of pics, pictures at night are a pain LOL, but here's one more of a chunky little rainbow.
  3. Hit the water around 1:00am, nice and quiet, 3rd cast and got lit up by a nice brown. Fmcbrandon caught a nice smallmouth and a nice colored up little bow. Wish we had some more moon light, and the fog is thick as soup. I'll take quality over quantity any day of the week too!
  4. Thanks for the replies guys... Family stuff came up and I missed this weekend... Might hit it next weekend on my way home though!
  5. Seems like a similar pattern of water off in the evenings I had last time I was down in June. Brandon and I will be burning the midnight oil this weekend for sure down below the dam! For those that have never fished Taney at night you guys should check it out. Just be safe and bring a partner! I'm still hoping there is some walleye that stuck around. 23in walleye on an ultralight was highlight of my trip last month!
  6. I'll be heading down to Rolla for a family reunion this weekend. Plan on hitting Montauk and possibly the Current. Haven't been down in a while so curious to hows it been fishing?
  7. Man that is a nice stretch... To me a fair price for what you are getting as well... Now I must convince the wife that our 3 girls will never need to go to college or get married!!!
  8. Any tips on location? I heard they are catching a bunch of trout down by the landing, but assuming you are down further than that?
  9. I also agree this has been a very informative thread. Putting together a bass rod and I've tried some of the braid thats out there, but have allot of homework to do still. Fishing strictly trout lately I have been a fan of 3lb Maxima in green for spinning setups. It is crazy strong for what it is. I've fished it in 2lb and 4lb as well, but found 3lb allows me to sling both the smaller and bigger jigs without swapping spools.
  10. Made it back home. Wish I had better news, but the Broad river I was skunked... Had one hooked up on top water, but never got him to hand. Some serious ankle busting going on as its basically fishing a boulder field Played with a river otter for a bit as he followed me up and down the opposite side bank. I guess wanting a hand out. Better part of my vacation was a nice little hike up Chimney Rock with my oldest kiddo. The elevator was out so we tackled the 500 steps to the top. Amazing views and really neat park. Working on gopro editing so may update this thread one more time if I get some good pics or footage. Minus the one of me face planting into the stream I will say one thing I truly appreciate our fisheries here in our state. I talked to the hatchery folks on the Davidson river and they were more than impressed with the size of fish that come out of our waters. Apparently the size, temps, and depths all play apart in why the fish are a bit on the smaller size than what I'm used to. That and the time of year is not what they call "trout season" to them. Mostly fish them in the winter months.
  11. Thanks John. I hope to catch some more too. Unfortunately this water shed is in a drought with super low water and real skittish fish, and the green river was blown out and flooded. All of the locals and even the hatchery guys said I picked about the worst possible week to fish lol. That's about my luck but it's been a great trip so far no matter what.
  12. Was a long hard morning, but success was finally reached! Got him on a 18 size piss ant out of a pool below some Rapids. Not the best pics, and he almost qualified as a minnow size wise, but I accomplished my mission of catching a wild stream bred native from NC . have some sweet footage of me busting the old posterior on some super slick rocks too when I can get back and dump the gopro LOL
  13. I will get a pic of him off my gopro John! Some type of shad minnow. Went back to the Green river again today and it was totally blown out and rolling after the storms we had last night. Super muddy... Hiked an angler trail about a half mile back in trying to find a small cove creek but the trail stopped in some really thick undergrowth and we had to double back. Lots of bear sign and tracks too! From there we called it, and drove to a nearby town hendersonville looking for a fly shop that no longer existed... At this point it was almost 10:30 and not a line in the water yet LOL. We drove all over NC it seemed like before we found a number for Davidson Outfitters and made the trek to the Pisgah national forest home of the Davidson River. The Davidson river is a beauty, and I finally at least saw some of my first NC trout. Fished the ripples with some ants and beetles with no luck. Came to a decent size deeper pool and went to jigging with an ultra light. Had 2 strikes but couldn't get hooked up... But I came darn close LOL.Davidson river is about an hour and 30 minutes away from where we are staying, but I wished I would of went there first. We didn't hit the water till 11:30ish and I think if we'd gotten there in the morning we would of had better luck. Going to try the broad river this evening and maybe head back to the davidson river tomorrow or Friday. My search continues for my first NC Trout! I've spent more time driving and hiking than fishing, but it really is beautiful country up here so I can't complain. Hopefully I have fish pics soon here to post!
  14. So fished the Green river yesterday. Aside from 1 smallmouth and a shad we got skunked on trout. Took a bit to get our bearings. Finally found a decent map as cell phones are useless up here lol. Trip report will be delayed until I can find some wifi. We boated lake lure today, but was family day. Not fishing day . Going to hit some feeder creeks and find some of those trophy minnows!
  15. Thanks, and I will definitely be sharing! Will try to do a day by day report again. GoPro, phones, and camera are all cleared off and charged up. First goal is just to catch a trout LOL. I sometimes over think everything, and then remember to reset to the basics. I saw a few other tiger trout pics from some of the guys over on ncangler.com. Which were just really awesome patterns. Almost fake looking. I hear they raise them in Utah as a major sport fish, and have them in a few other states too.
  16. Thanks John, I'm bringing both Fly Rods and Ultra lights. I'm hoping for a hike in trip, and plan on getting to some harder to reach water which will hopefully increase my chances. Also been researching Tiger Trout. Apparently there are a few places where Browns and Brooks co-exist and occasionally will produce these beautiful fish. I'm hoping for my first Brook with a native Tiger being the unicorn of my trip. I'll work on keeping an active trip report going as well.
  17. I'm leaving Friday for a week long trip to North Carolina. Staying at lake lure outside of Asheville. It's a family trip, but I've bargained a whole day to myself to go exploring with the hopes of finding and catching native brooks, browns, and bows. If anyone has any pointers I'll gladly take them! Places to fish as well as things to do with the fam too. Going to fish the green river, the Rocky broad, and hopefully some streams here and there. I've been hanging out at ncangler.com and trying to gather as much knowledge as possible, and hopefully I can land a few, and finally catch a brook.

You can use the gopro software for editing other videos, and can shellac it of their website. It's not the greatest or most feature rich, but it's pretty easy to pick up and use.
  19. Those are some great looking craws Mitch!
  20. After out last trip where we fished pretty much every night, it's safe to say that this time of year I prefer it over day time fishing. No crowds, no sun burn, once you get over the eeriness of the fog and the critters making noise on the bank it's very tranquil out there. Glad to see the night bite still on. Be safe out there.
  21. I honestly don't know... Seems like a big drop to me as well. Not sure how deep it is at the base of the dam, but I know a few of the fish were pretty beat up. One had a messed up bent possibly broken tail, which we kept as he seemed to have some sort of injury. Another one was missing a pectoral fin which looked like it was ripped off. Hopefully someone in the know can chime in.
  22. May seem unorthodox, but caught some really nice walleye out of Taneycomo last week down by the dam. Waded as far out as we could get safely at night, and we fished them at night with large stick baits on a slow retrieve trying to keep them up top. Had great moonlight as well all week which helped too. Caught a bunch of rainbows too, but had multiple walleye over 20 inches. After the gates were opened up last Monday I am guessing there are still quite a few in there to be caught.
  23. I hear that. I do enjoy salt water, and apparently with a dual tank setup are less maintenance, but I think a native species tank is just awesome, and some of the sunfish I've caught this year already have had some spectacular color to them.
  24. Very cool. I've been thinking of setting one up myself with some sunfish and some craws. Seen a few cold water tanks too with some trout in them, but man looks like allot of work.
  25. Thanks for all that you do for us here Phil with this amazing community and site! I'll know it takes a tremendous amount of time managing everything, especially when you could be out there fishing... Time is one thing I never have enough of and you can never get back. Have fun in Boston with that new grand baby! Safe travels.
