  1. Some really cool nature out there! Thanks for sharing.
  2. Last entry here as we are back home. Was a great trip once again down to Taney. The night bite was on for us luckily as this was our big family vacation trip instead of a fishing one. Burned allot of midnight oil this time around, but there were nights where we almost fished till sun up. My brother in law had never night fished, but I think he's hooked now after this week. He caught the last fish of our trip and she was a dandy. A nice 21in bow from down around outlet 2. I also landed some more rainbows, and 1 more walleye who got released. Overall just an awesome time on a truly special stretch of water.
  3. Have some great memories of fishing with my dad as well. Some of the first memories I have as a kid are fishing at his aunts catfish pond. After a late lunch today I took him and my oldest out to a small pond. The fish weren't very cooperative, but we still had a great time. He too didn't have it in him much anymore, but I'm happy to get him out whenever I can.
  4. Was a hot but awesome day yesterday at SDC. We hit all the big coasters with almost no wait times, and it wasn't crowded at all. Kiddos got flat worn out, so that meant an early bedtime and my brother in law and I got back at it around 10pm tonight. Water was off and we fished between outlet 1 and the cable. We went back to throwing sticks as we really wanted to catch some walleye for dinner. We ended up with 4 total, the biggest 2 going 22 inches. Their bellys were full of shad and the bigger ones looked like they had some small trout fry in them, but not sure. Biggest surprise of the night, I caught my first ever small mouth out of Taney. A little guy maybe 13 inches. The rainbows continued to disrupt our walleye hunt. We both caught over 20 rainbows apiece. Most were in the 15 to 18 inch range, we had a few right at 20in or just below, and all of them were fat little footballs. My brother in law had a bow hooked up with the biggest head I've ever seen, but lost him about an arms reach away... Hope you guys enjoy the pics. All but the walleye were released.
  5. Another good night in the books. We set out with a goal for some walleye. Instead we ended up with another solid night of rainbows, and my brother in law stuck a nice brown. Bite was on last night, and we caught pretty consistently. Fish were again just thick and tall, all very healthy. Only caught 2 little stockers, and everything else were just fat stuffed bows! We cranked stick baits for most of the time as we were trying to target the walleye. Shallow divers out in the current. Finally finished up at 2am. Was hard to leave... It's silver dollar city day todaywith the fam, but we'll be back at it again when it gets dark.
  6. Thanks for the replies guys, I'll try to keep it going. Took my kiddo and my niece down to the outlets this morning, and caught a few rainbows. Caught them on a Sculpin jig, and a beige san juan worm under a float. Was pretty crowded down there for a week day so we didn't stay too long. We are going to hit it hard again tonight, and try to stick it to the walleye!
  7. Finished off the day on a good note. Caught some nice rainbows tonight. Water was off so I could get out there a bit and hit the channel. The girth on some of these fish are crazy. First bow was a silver bullet that was jumping all over the place down by outlet 2. Moved down by the cable and started getting some just rod jarring hits on some decent rainbows. Picked up 2 more walleye tonight as well. All were caught on a white 1/8oz. jig which I was fast jigging with a pretty fast retrieve.
  8. Yeah, had a huge belly on him. Both the wall eye were pretty beat up like maybe they had just come over through the gates, and didn't fight very hard. The bass and the bow were both peeling drag like crazy. Gearing up now to head down in a little bit, going to hit it again tonight!
  9. Took a boat out today from Lilley's with my brother in law and my dad. Only hooked a few but never got one in the boat. Pops eyes are just about gone so he gets allot of help from me. We had a good morning out on the water no matter what. Going to hit it again tonight and hopefully have some more to share. Oh I forgot, we did catch some fish today, but they were bluegill and were in a small hand net at moon shine beach on gold fish crackers with the kiddos lol.
  10. That's a really awesome viewpoint. Loving that drone footage.
  11. Last few nights were sloow. Today was an interesting mixed bag o fish. Brother in law and I went out after they closed the gates. We headed up by the cable and waded out as far as we could. We caught 2 nice walleye 1 on a jig other on a stick bait, and about a 2lb Kentucky I think, and I hooked a real solid 20in+ rainbow on a stick as well. All in about 2 hour span Lots of fish activity and surface hits. Saw a few more walleye swimming around too. All fish were released.
  12. Going to try and keep this post updated, as I hope to be fishing one way or another on Taney everyday this week. I went out last night around 11, but between the fog and dead batteries in my head lamp I turned in pretty quick after only a few bites. Going to try and get out today some, and hopefully have something picture worthy to share. Water is still off from last night.
  13. That's awesome. Got any more pics of your setup?
  14. That is so awesome. Man 26 size hooks gotta be tiny... Would love to see one of those little guys hooked up. I thought you netted most of them? Thanks for sharing and the scenery there looks awesome too!
  15. I've met a few forum members from here fishing. Had nothing but positive experiences as well. I found this site only a year and a half ago and I've only seriously gotten back into fishing 3 years ago. I feel robbed that I wasted so many years just always finding excuses not to go... I generally meet good folks on all the lakes rives and streams. Theres been a few bad ones but not many. Out of all the online communities out there I belong to this one sure has a whole bunch of "good people" People I'd be happy to meet and fish with.
  16. Really awesome fish there. Love the markings. Thanks for sharing!
  17. Sounds like white will be a hot color next week! Some of the best fishing I've had down there was after they closed the gates. Looking forward to next week, Friday cannot get here fast enough.
  18. Looks like a great trip. Thanks for sharing! Got to get back to the ocean... never know what you'll catch.
  19. Thanks so much for sharing! Very nice to see a story like this. Great people doing great things still left out there...
  20. Thanks Mr. An-Cap. We will be starting at the Indian camp creek, and we'll likely stick to around there. Appreciate the info.
  21. So I was always told there were no trout north of the Missouri River. I was doing some research on the Big creek in Foristell MO just outside St. Charles county and saw on one of the links to Hook and Bullet that they said there were Brown Trout in the creek? Found an elusive post on another fishing website from a guy that said there are trout north of St. Louis, but he never said where. I know they do the winter stocking programs at the lakes and such, but looking beyond that. I am assuming with a spring fed creek you may get some areas which could sustain trout water temp wise, but was wondering if there was any truth to this? Totally understand if nobody want to give up the secrets, but a confirmation would be great either way, and I'll be doing some on the ground investigation this weekend no matter what
  22. Heading to Indian camp creek on Sunday. I know they have a stocked pond there, but was wondering about fishing the Big Creek that runs through there. Anyone ever fish it? I know its a run off of Cuivre river, just wondering what types of fish we may find in there.
  23. Thanks for checking with them Phil. Fishing at night I always stick to the bank as I always wondered if they kicked the water on if I'd notice in time to get back across. I keep a good eye on it, but its difficult to judge sometimes. Always err on the side of caution.
  24. They used to sell a short rod series zebco dock demon I think it was called. They were a step up from the kid themed ones. Reels were still nothing to write home about, but were serviceable and could be replaced. As a testament to they don't make them like they used to all 3 of my kiddos have gone through my original zebco snoopy rod combo from circa 1986 LOL. rebuilt the reel a few times, but it just keeps on going.
