There's a big flat up near Piney on the James and there have been bass on it for over a month. I've found that about the only way to get bit on it is to drag a brush hog or lizard carolina rigged. They were still there on Wednesday.
True. The way they're eating the deep crankbaits right now you have to be careful just unhooking one. I had one get the back treble in the gill last week. Ended up releasing it and it took off in a hurry. We fished that same area for almost an hour and I never saw a floater so I think it made it. I hate seeing that happen, but that's the only way we could catch em.
I'd normally do the club tourney there in the morning, but couldn't since we're picking up this boat. Last week there were 12 boats there but I felt like the area was pretty quiet compared to mid lake.
So my brother and I are picking up our new rig tomorrow and plan to at least start the break in process with the motor. I don't want to battle wake boats all afternoon. Would Cape Fair be the easiest place to put in and putt around getting the first two hours in without battling a ton of traffic, or should we head up the White from Baxter?
This^^^ We fished the little derby out of Cape Fair last Wednesday and started the day with 4 bags of ice in the well, stopped along the way and bought 3 more. All of our fish wire lively, but we checked them religiously all day. I can promise you, that I'd at least eat the spots if I did that though.
I'm one of the younger guys and fish it when I can. It's pretty fun and we won last Wednesday. I haven't noticed the cranky attitudes at all. I'd certainly be fine taking your money!
I feel goofy now. I use a heavy action rod with a Curado 200G, 20lb flouro and 14lb flouro leader. Am I fishing too heavy of a set up for this? I've been wondering if I'm missing bites, but using a baby brush hawg on the end they seem to thump it pretty hard or simply pick it up and run with it.
We were between K-dock and Mincy the whole day. Fished the front half of the pockets. I think there are fish in all 3 stages of the spawn. We had 10 smallmouth and some were pretty good size. I'd never seen that many small mouth that far up the lake. We caught a couple that were likely on beds. We'd throw our jigs up right on the bank and work them past the old bank line all the way to the boat. There are bluegills EVERYWHERE. I think that's what they're keying on pretty hard. I'd think any dark color jig with green pumpkin trailer would get bit aggressively.
I've always seen a bunch of canoes and kayaks getting back out at the ramp by Scotty's. No idea where they're putting in but have been interested in finding out. I assume most boats are decent about not swamping them. I know we definitely give them room and come off plane if we see them.
Not to speak for Techo, but I'm sure he meant Table Rock. I fish Bull a lot all year, but mostly way up by K-Dock. There are boats, but they're not lined up taking turns on every single cut and point like they sometimes are on the rock.
