  1. Nice work Marty.
  2. Baseball bats next?
  3. I hopefully have gotten past the stage of mounting and keeping big fish. I have 5 on various walls dating back to 1983. That fish was a 12# rainbow that the taxidermist somehow messed up and I ended up with a reproduction. Got several other PB's mounted including the big brown from Bennett in 2003. That's the last one that I've put on the wall and I've been told by the wife that anymore will include building an additional room to the house.
  4. I first saw his article on tying the RFSN in the July 1985 issue of "Fly Fisherman". I kept that magazine all these years in case I needed to go back and review how he tied it. Laker 67 and I were discussing patterns for brown trout and I said it did a pretty good job wherever I fished it. I sent him some on a couple occasions when he said the Taneycomo browns weren't hitting his scuds that well. He switched to it and also had good results.
  5. I bought one of his books when he was working for Bass Pro. He was tying some of his deer hair bugs and made it look so easy. He signed the book and drew a mayfly emerging on the top of the page and a nice rainbow getting ready to feed on the bottom of the page. That was in June of 1991. Found out later that his second wife was in a couple classes I had at Arkansas State. His Red fox squirrel nymph has been awful good to me over the last 35 years. Sad to hear of his passing.
  6. Awesome and congratulations.
  7. Might try calling Flip and see if he's got any of the old Air Cell fly line. I was trying to get some of the flies I had seen Jim Teeny use on one fishing show for catching salmon, but couldn't find any place that had them. I looked up his name and called the phone number listed thinking I might get a fly shop. He answered and thought that I was one of his big time fishing buddies playing a joke. I apologized and he asked how I got his number. Told him I got it off the internet and asked if he had a store where I could buy some. He took the order for a half dozen flies and was actually very polite. Those nymphs I bought still didn't work as well as the so called "parasite" patterns that Ed Elersic showed us how to tie.
  8. Guess old "Big Louie" will make his next appearance in the "What's Cooking" thread?
  9. Saw one spelling of the town as Gasville and another in the thread as Gassville? The first sounds appropriate for what happened to you. Hope your back to 100%.
  10. In the past we would drive to Bennett on a Thursday and fish Friday. Might fish Saturday if the fish were of any size and if not head to Roaring Friday evening. Last year we drove to Montauk on a Saturday evening to fish it Sunday. Those possible plans may be on hold now as the youngest grandkids have had the flu-type symptoms and passed them on to our daughter and possibly Susie now. It is a good bit of driving though.
  11. The other 3 parks either stocked for the C&R season or had an abundance of fish leftover from the last of October. Montauk at one time restocked their stream after January 1st. It was strange with Maramac as the previous season had good numbers of quality fish.
  12. The Mrs. and I may hit 3 of the 4 parks for the opener. We live closer to Maramac Springs, but it seems to be more of a miss the last couple winter seasons. Gal at the James Foundation told me last year they weren't stocking for the winter season. Not sure how official her comments were but we didn't find many fish on or first and only visit there.
  13. Great scenery.
  14. Going to be the bionic woman once that knee is back at 100%.
  15. How close is that fish to a state record? Super fish.
  16. Great color on that brown.
  17. I thought I read some place that the rods were made by the same company. The old "Sierra Trading Post" has had them on sale recently.
  18. I bought a Fenwick Fenlite Streamflex on sale last year that looks a lot like the Grey's. It's a 6'6" 3 weight that is a lot of fun when fishing the trout parks.
  19. Congratulations all the way around!

    What's Cooking?

Youngest daughter had a Halloween party Friday night with somewhere in the vicinity of 60 parents and kids total. Not sure how big the pot was she cooked it in was but she started with 12# of ground beef.
  21. Super buck Marty! Way to go.
  22. Enjoyed the photos and the narrative.
  23. On occasion at Maramac in the C&R I've had some mighty slow days. Had a slow day with Rick and Harv one cold winter C&R day at Montauk. Might not have been as slow but my brand new waist high waders leaked right out of the box.
  24. Welcome to the club-just about the time you think "I've got this all figured", you have a day when everything that could go wrong does.
