Pinch the barbs!! I took a hook under the finger nail last week with an 18 inch rainbow flopping around on the other treble. I told him I have let go thousands of trout but now it's self defense and I put the death grip on him. Got him subdued and got the hook out. I'm not gonna lie you will loose more fish on pinched barbs but I really like the initial strike so if they get off after a little tussle I'm fine with that.

Brett Radar at chartered Waters showed my daughter and I how to do it a few years ago in Taney. They had been running a full 4 units for weeks and we booked him on vacation. Sure we could have spin fished but we like to fly fish. It's not really a cast because there is no loop. We laid it out on one side of the boat and let the water load it. Straight overhead cast to the other side with the line almost straight in line with the rod. Flop it over a few times to get it away from the boat is all we did. We also used slip bobbers that day. BTW, I think Bill Babler mentioned in his report that they were using 9' of leader.

You don't "cast" a bobber rig with 8-10' of tippet below the bobber either. Water load it and let it fly.

I've caught browns up to 27 inches but they were all snakes like the one in my profile picture. This is one of the thickest trout I've ever caught. I caught a 29 inch rainbow at McClellans that was thick too but not like this one.

Not at all. The first fly is an attractor for aggressive fish and the subtle dropper for those that refuse the first.

Always fish a dropper, tie in at the bend of the first fly.

Hooked this right at noon after a solid morning of catching.
