I got on the water at 10:30 and ran about 8-9 miles to fish my way back. I caught 5 fish the first hour hour and a half. One being the state record smallie that transitioned to a drum at the boat. Stinkin woke fish😆.
Mitch gave me a BUNCH of his Tackle Max fugitive swim baits (white) and I bought some of his mullet head jigs (PBJ) last week. Those and a chartreuse/blue back crank is all I used.
I was alternately between the 3 baits as I went. I’ve never caught a bass on a swim bait BTW. Kietech or rage swimmer.
About noon, someone flipped the switch and it was fish after fish for the next 3 hours. If I caught one, I would hit spot lock and usually catch 1 or 2 more in the same area. Sometimes 3 or 4 more. From 14” to the biggest, a fat 19”er. 3 18”s and the 19”. Plus a bunch of 14-16 inch fish. Probably 30 fish total after counting all my photos.
Here’s pictures of the nicer ones. 16” to 19” fatty.
That fugitive swim bait bite is awesome. I like to fish top down and fast to slow so reeling that swimmer is a great bite. You can feel the tail thump. Some of them fully inhaled it to the point I had to retie it several times.
I threw it on 7’ medium fast st croix spinning rod with a 3/16 VMC moon eye. I only used one all day. The smaller one.
