Interesting because this is what Chris Carson said about the shift switch: "The switch has two functions, one to keep the motor running on 4 cylinders in neutral, and to revert the motor from 6 cylinders in gear to 4 cylinders during the shift. This dropping of two cylinders when the shift linkage is loaded(tensioned by cable force) allows the clutch dog to release it's grip somewhat on whatever gear it's engaged with. This is an old technology, started in the 60's by Mercruiser"#1 drive and shift switch that grounded the motors points killing the motor momentarily during the shift to break the continuity of power through the drive system, allowing the clutch dog to slip easily from it's grip on the gear it's in.This type of shift assist has been utilized one way or another over the years by many manufacturers, and as technology advanced most systems incorporated a "miss or stumble" by killing some cylinders instead of all, reducing the chance of stalling the motor during the shift, while still providing the necessary momentary break in the continuity of torque in the drive system to allow easy disengagement of the clutch. Yamaha decided to maintain the motor in this missing condition while in neutral, and I think it's for a reason.Motors need to be under some load while running to create enough heat and pressure to burn the fuel/oil to ash and not just load up with partially burnt oily, fluffy carbon.By idleing on four cylinders the motor has to work a little, carrying the two dead cylinders...this work is replaced by prop load when the motor is in gear.A workload is instrumental in creating the heat and pressure to to create a clean burn, resulting in lower emissions, and I think this is Yamahas method. Consider Mercurys inline 4 cylinder that idles on two cylinders, picking up the other two at high trolling speed...The bottom two carbs don't have an idle circuit at all,and although they sound a little strange during transition from 2 to 4 they run quite well, and are quite effecient for carb motors." My thoughts,Chris

Congrats on the purchase! Just an FYI those hpdi’s Don’t run on all cylinders in neutral so make sure you idle to warm the motor up. I also recommend running Yamaha ring free with every tank and some run a little oil in the gas as well. Enjoy the rig!

I’d want at least a 30hp jet on your Shawnee. Better to have the hp for when you truly need it.

They are locals at a small lake in Illinois I fish. I don’t see huge numbers of them and watch them dive on the shad when they group up. Typically I only see 1-2 in the cove I primarily fish

Who Is Fishing the Big Bass Tour Oct 31-Nov 3
STLbassbuster replied to crazy4fishin's topic in Table Rock Lake
I caught a 3.35 LM on Sunday morning. It earned an 8th place finish for the hour. Main lake bluff end and a 7” swimbait. The fish spit up some smaller crawfish pinchers. Did not catch another fish the rest of the day. Tough fishing indeed but I had a good time. -

Here is the crash report. https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/WP03/AccidentDetailsAction?ACC_RPT_NUM=200466330 Boats involved: 1993 Ranger 392V & 2018 Bass Cat Caracal. Something caused the Ranger (vessel 1) heading east bound to cross paths with the Bass Cat (vessel 2) heading west bound causing the bass cat to hit the front port side of the ranger.

Very sad deal for both families. Things can happen in a blink on the water.

I will take quality over quantity any day. Congrats on the 5.2!

Definitely room for improvement. I fish the big bass tour and I suggest they add at least two more weigh in locations besides Long Creek. Add one at Port of Kimberling and have another up the James or the White. This way the fish are being released closer to their haunts. If we want to start limiting the amount of tournaments do it in the summer months when fish are more likely to perish. Another option is start earlier (if possible) and end the tournament around noon. Instead of 5 fish limits do 3.
