Reminds me of the best corn I ever had from Dyersville, Iowa (where the Field of Dreams film site and stadium is). My coworker's 92 year old mother lives there, and has all her life, and she told me to stop by on my way back from the Driftless. Rosie had 24 ears for me and homemade apple sauce to boot. A friend and I ate 24 ears of Iowa sweet corn in 3 days. It was so good.

That reminds me of eating Kipper Snacks at 4am in a marsh waiting for light. I don't know what it is about sardines and duck hunting, but they go together. Did a reverse seared hunk of doe backstrap the other day. Smoked until 110 internal and did a quick sear in my own, rendered duck fat. I don't have pics of the sliced result because we ate it too fast. My word was it good!

@tjm Quenten was checking people at Pointe Royale last Friday night. I called him when I saw two guys with catfish rods, worms and a five gallon bucket by outlet one and he headed right over. Granted, that's just one night, but they definitely are having more of a presence over the last year or so. Heck, last year I got checked for my license three times in one of Phil's bass boats. Chris was motoring around in a non-descript rig. I loved it! All you can do is be non-confrontational, call Quenten or Chris, get a pic of the license plate, and hope it's a deterrent. In the end, though, with all the BS, Taney is still an astounding fishery--and probably the best it has ever been since the 1970s.

There are none as of April when I talked to Shane Bush, the MDC biologist for an article on Taneycomo. It's just a select group of fishermen who've been complaining for a few years. Guess that could have changed, but I doubt it.

Now that, I agree with. Correct or not, that can be the case--like the single point vs treble hook debate. I'm just saying 99% of regulations on a lake/river/stream have roots in science (whether that's, like you stated, falling back into "science," or a solid base like, say, creel limits).

They do not. With the vast majority of trout not being able to spawn successfully, it'll likely never be that way, nor will they shut down during November-February timeframe. I wish they would when the DO levels tank each fall.

It would have no scientific backing. Every study you read, from the 1970s to now, says there is no difference in mortality between single hooks and treble hooks. Wouldn't bother me though, treble hooks are terrible at keeping fish hooked. I fish both flies and jerkbaits as well. The real issues are what Pete noted and below: Outlet fishermen using their "Taneycomo rig" with amnesia line snagging fish during low DO events Boga grips splitting lower jaws Mishandling of fish once caught (see: squeezing the life out of them, dragging them on the rocks for pics So, folks can keep bantering about treble hooks killing fish and ignoring the real reasons. Tale as old as time. Just because the White has it people think it's necessary around here. You know what AGFC stands for, right?

Went down and stayed at Phil's Saturday-Monday to do some fishing. Fortuitously, @JestersHK and @Seth were down as well. Fishing overall was tough during the daylight. And I mean some of the toughest fishing I've seen in a while. Of course, I could've drug scuds and did well, but I just didn't want to do that. So take it with a grain of salt. The jig and jerkbait bite outside of darkness was just rough, though. And it wasn't just me. DJ and I fished with Blake Harris Friday morning 5-8am and we maybe caught 15 fish. Then I joined DJ, his daughter and her boyfriend, and his brother in law Friday night. Fishing was stellar with the full moon. We caught rainbows, browns, walleye and white bass. I was using a fly rod but the rest used jerkbaits and jigs and did well. DJ, Seth and I went out late Saturday night, fishing 11pm-3am out of Seth's boat. We caught a ton of fish on Duane's 762 jerkbaits, with a couple right around 20-inches. And DJ may or mat not have soiled his pants. Sunday my cousin John came down and we fished 5-dark with jerkbaits and jigs. I caught one, fat 18-inch brown across from Phil's and two other 15-inchers. Other than that, not a single other fish. John and I waded yesterday morning and threw sculpins and caught a few nice rainbows. So, I say it was tough, but we still caught fish. It was just a little tougher than normal. Not many pics this trip but got one Friday night. These young guys (I feel like I can call college-aged kids young now) were above us and catching quite a few on jerkbaits.

Yep, on the Sac River two years ago. Setting trot lines around 10pm, the entire boat was covered and lanterns full of them. None of the fish we caught had any in their stomachs.

Craziest one that ever happened to me was in 2002. Gramps and I were fishing our family's farm ponds in Rosebud, MO one summer morning. I was throwing a Kastmaster, just to see if it'd work. I hooked into a 3 lb largemouth and fought it right up to the bank. I tried to hoist it onto dry land and the line snapped. Fish turned and swam away. Gramps says "Don't worry, I'll get your lure back for you." Threw his floating Rapala out where the fish was headed. Twitched it a few times and a bass exploded on it. He got it in and in the mouth was the Kastmaster. 100% true story. I have a picture somewhere of the lure in its mouth.

Years ago I was in Iowa duck hunting and had a Maid-Rite loose meat sandwich. Been calling them Maid-Wrong ever since. Like anything I'm sure it depends on how you do it. But I'll take a sloppy joe.

My great grandpa, John Roche, was part of Patton's 3rd Army that broke through and relieved the guys at Bastogne. Have his flag in a case. The nads on those guys on D-Day and pretty much any theater in WWII is something I'll never even come close to. Introducing Band of Brothers to my buddy today after work.

I am up to 7 in the backyard. They started chewing my flowers so it was time to do a little population control. Nice young ones, too.

SW WI Driftless is one of my favorite places. Looks like I need to expand my horizons to the rest of the region! Awesome stuff.

This one just has sketchy written all over it. Dbag move to go back on the agreement 100%. Likely somebody who doesn't like tournamament bass fishermen, of which there are many. But if he was going to do it he should have just said "screw you, I am going to catch it as soon as you leave and eat it." Then I'd have no problem with it. Also, my guess is he was trying to force feed it and get it in the mouth for that time span. I mean how many females that big are eating while tending to laying eggs? I know of countless stories of big females being fished for, for 10-12 hours without even a sniff at anything. I could very well be wrong, but the whole thing is just sketch. Hopefully the fish is mounted or eaten.

Everything is eating them where they're around.

Not a single one in Kansas City either. Driving back last week on 13 at 70 mph, windows up, radio playing, you could still hear the droning of them. Pretty neat. Buddy caught this channel out of the Sac this weekend.
