  1. When currency is debased, inflation results. That is the foundation of the fractional banking system. Pile on endless government borrowing. Money from nothing...
  2. I've been needing to replenish my stock of single-hook Rooster Tails. None of the big sporting goods outlets have them in stock. Can't even find bootleg copies on Amazon. This morning I sent an email to Worden asking about availability. This is there response: Our production was closed for approximately 5 months because of Covid. During that time frame we continued to ship any product we had in stock. Our shelves are bare and we are currently producing as quickly as possible. Once we have our distributors/retailers in stock, we will reopen our online store. However, it could be some time before we do so. We are still producing single hook Rooster Tails. It will be a while before readily available.
  3. Late February of this year I found myself needing to replace my old G2 Dodge Cummins. Shopped every dealer within 150 miles of CoMO and only found half a dozen low mileage used RAM 2500 4x4 available. Prices were 80% of new, with very little warranty remaining. Not a good value. Capitol Chrysler was the only one around that had trucks in stock that weren't burdened with $20k+ in city boy options, so I bit the bullet for a new one. And it's going to get worse before it gets better.
  4. You CPR guys kill a lot more fish than you think. You just don't see it happen.
  5. I wouldn't put yellow perch in a cow pond. They won't be able to feed well, and the sediment in the water will choke out the swim up fry. Good visibility and a plankton bloom at hatching time is critical for survival of the fry. Hybrids would probably do fine if you put them on a supplemental feeding program. Hybrids and bluegill might be a combination that would result in a trophy bluegill pond.
  6. .35ac, shelf around the edge down to 6' or so, then sheer drop to 16'. 100+ up to 30' cedar trees along one bank and one side of the drop in the middle. Most of the shelf was covered in inch base crushed limestone before the pond filled. 2/3 of the dam is rip-rapped with 3"-6" crushed limestone. Visibility is good, up to 5'-ish when there are no muskrats in there tearing things up. When water temps are above 50° F I run diffused aeration. The pond is on a supplemental feeding program - ~1/2lb of Optimal Jr. once per day March-November. 10lbs of fathead minnows added spring and fall. I drove ~550 miles, one-way, to get these fish. They are a Nebraska sandhills strain, that are proving to exhibit remarkable potential in small bodies of water. There are a couple commercial fisheries in MO that can get Great Lakes strain yellow perch. Harrison's and NEMO. There may be others, but these are two that I know can get them. There is also a southeastern strain of yellow perch, that I would expect to do well with the water temps we get here, but I haven't heard of any fisheries that sell them here. You'd probably have to drive to Georgia for those.
  7. I treated her very gently while she was out of the water. Put her on the dock long enough to snap a pic, then right back in the water.
  8. I renovated an old farm pond on my property a few years back. Decided to try something other than the normal bluegill/largemouth/channel cat mix. Stocked forage minnows spring of '19, redear sunfish and northern crayfish June of '19, yellow perch September of '19. Caught this one a couple days ago.
  9. Roger that! The wife thought that I had renewed her permit last spring, but I hadn't. That is an automatic contribution of $145 to the powers that be, if Officer Friendly stops by and asks to see your permit. I put hers and mine both on auto-renew after we got home from the river that day.
  10. Got back out on the MO over Labor Day weekend. Lots of guys fishing. Lots of fish being caught. We saw a couple jumbos in other boats. We didn't catch any big ones, but we got enough nice eaters to fill five one-gallon ziplock bags with nuggets.
  11. Had the day off, and needed some peace and quiet time to myself, so I decided to hit LOz at Warsaw. Launched at East Bledsoe 6:30am. Soon as I got out of the dead water arm I noticed that there was very little current and thought to myself "Well, poop." Set up my first drift just downstream of the no boating zone and nailed an eater blue within 50 yards of where I started. Thought to myself "Well, maybe not poop." But I was wrong. It was poop. Spent a few hours up there dragging live 3"-4" bluegills and 4"-6" shiners. No more bites. Went down and hit the ledge on the bend below Warsaw. That spot is always good for a few fish. Nada. Fished the brush on the left bank most of the way down to the 65 bridge. Nada. Went back up thinking I'd head home, then the dim bulb lit up and I decided to check the generation schedule. Said they were going to start another unit at 2:00pm. So I stuck around to see if the bite would pick up with the current. Since I'd not had good results drifting and dragging I decided to anchor up and just sit. Between 1:00pm and 2:00pm I caught one more eater on a shiner, one more on a bluegill, and one on a live crayfish. Lost one of them at the boat. Caught a dozen or so fiddler size channels on nightcrawlers, and missed a few hookups on the other stuff. Zero bites on cut jumping carp. 2nd unit fired up right on schedule and not another bite after that. Stayed til 3:00pm and called it quits. Better luck next time...
  12. I rarely pack a lunch when I go fishing, I just don't get to go often enough to counteract the ice cold 12oz cans of Steak, Taters, And Gravy that sustain me in this miserable heat and humidity.
  13. You're welcome to think whatever CNN tells you to think. It's no skin off me.
  14. Here's how I see it. Pretty much all of the political establishment, left and right, hates the Emperor Trump, because most of the time he refuses to go along with their BuSiness As Usual. I truly believe that the Emperor has the best interest of normal Americans as the basis of most of his actions. He has worked very hard to get the US out from under the financial thumb of the commies in China by making it easier for companies to do business profitably here at home. The fact that he's a jackass and a whoremonger are meaningless to me. He's trying to do the right thing for our country. He's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but think what things would be like if that vile hildebeast klintoon were the Emperor. Three years into the reign of that witch we would be lucky to have a public discussion like this without being tossed into a gulag.
  15. People are people. Some people have light skin. Some people have dark skin. Some people behave like animals. Some people behave in a civilized manner. Behavior has nothing to do with skin color, despite what the enemedia, politicians, and race baiters would like to have us think. Shitty people come in all colors, as do decent people.
  16. For the smallmouth and trout - Pick up a bag of 6" bubblegum color Zoom worms and some 2/0 light wire worm hooks. I like the red ones. Rig it wacky. Maybe add a split shot on the line to get it down into the current. Maybe bite off an inch or two if they don't want the whole thing. Toss it into the head of a hole and drift it in. Any 4" finesse worm will do the same thing. Watermelon/motor oil colors usually pretty good. I wouldn't bother with 4" grubs. Get some 3" or 4" soft plastic crayfish. Rig Texas style on a standup or ned. Rebel Deep Teeny Wee Craw. Cut the scrawny hooks off. Put a #2 Excalibur treble on the back. 1/4oz Rattle Trap can be good at times. Teeny Pop-R and Tiny Torpedo are fun if they're willing to hit topwater. I rarely fish for Goggle Eye, but when I do it's to catch a mess of em to eat. Nightcrawlers or crappie minnows. Don't float below the park on a Saturday. It's a giant floating drunkfest.
  17. The rivers are all a wreck right now, so I'm thinking I'll take the Mrs. up there tomorrow afternoon. Will depend on the weather conditions. After the rains last night there's no doubt that the water will be muddy. If I wind up going I'll report back after I get home.
  18. Honestly couldn't tell you his specialty. He was the main dude at Putnam's in Columbia when they were in business.
  19. It's very possible that my boat mech is full of bull puckey. Not that boat mechs are known for that. lol
  20. If you have Evinrude gauges, not sure if it works the same with aftermarket stuff, or anything pre-ETEC for that matter... when you turn the key to the run position, but before you crank it - watch the tach needle - it will jump up to somewhere and stop - whatever rpm reading the tach needle lands on - that's close to the number of hours on your EMM. My boat mech told me about that when I had it in for servicing over the winter.
  21. The tach tells you that at start-up if you know what to look for. Not down to the exact minute, but close enough to know if it's time for a 300hr servicing.
  22. It's really hard to imagine that Bombardier shareholders will allow the company to sit on the Evinrude brand. That technology is worth a lot of money. Surely some other corporate interest will come along with enough cash to buy it.
  23. I can't think of even one nice thing to say about that.
  24. That's what my fishing buddy says. I figure I've made it this far in life without bashing in a drum's head so I'm probably good to go without doing it now. lol
  25. Caught a 7lb drum out of the Osage on Saturday. Tossed it in the deadwell and brought it home. Got maybe a pound of nice meat off the back. Maybe there was some more to get from other places, but I didn't see how what was left would be worth the effort to remove it. Fish fry yesterday - I cut the drum fillets into nuggets, egg wash and rolled in Andy's Red. 300° peanut oil til it floated. Also did some white bass and bluegill the same way. Wife, daughter, and 77yo Dad all thought the drum was every bit as good as the other fish. Dad was expecting it to be full of bones. He said he'd rather eat drum from now on because it's easier to eat than bluegill. lol I thought it was perfectly acceptable table fare. Mild flavor - not as fishy-tasting as the WB or BG. I'd stack him somewhere in the middle of eating fish. Not as good as walleye or flathead, better than trout park trout or largemouth bass. The texture was fine, but I suspect that it would turn to rubber if it was left in too long or if the oil was too hot. That said, I probably won't kill another one on purpose, unless someone in the family specifically requests more of it. Butchering fish is something that I don't enjoy at all, and for what this guy yields I really don't feel good about killing him. And no, I didn't bash his head apart to get the rocks out.
