  1. Absolutely! The Goldeye haven't been coming often or easily... more of a "very infrequent bycatch"...but I believe they are there! The Gar and Grass Carp are usually reliable on fly, as are the Koi. A month on either side of Late August seems to be a good time...
  2. Awesome! Yes! Time is flying...Longear Sunfish was 2020, and you helped me IMMENSELY to find some waters nearby. Those were a first for me. I caught some this year too, but didn't go looking for them...just happened into them. Yes, you did your best to help with the Warmouth... THANK YOU! The fault lies with me...I just didn't connect with them at that spot. I fished with Ham 3 times this year (5-6 days)! He did his best, too...tried to put me on Chain Pickerel, for example... He caught them, I saw some swimming around (probably fleeing me)...but I did not connect with that species yet. @Ham gets bonus points. Even after fishing with me once, he was still willing to fish together again! His shatterproof face shield and kevlar vest protected him from most of the dangers of fishing near me. 😜 I used to think I was pretty good, but you guys are next level! With everyone's help, I'll keep after them and will hopefully be able to add them (and others) to my list eventually.
  3. Let Sue know that she beat me. I didn't have a 100-species goal, but did manage to have my best year ever for number of species with a fly rod, at 46. I caught 36 species in Missouri this year, plus 8 additional species in Iowa, and 2 in Arkansas... for a total of 46 species on flies in 2021. I caught 12 species that were firsts on fly gear for me: Koi, Saugeye, Meanmouth Bass (Kentucky Spotted Bass Hybrid), Redspotted Sunfish, Warmouth, Dollar Sunfish, Bantam Sunfish, Longnose Gar, Skipjack Herring, Bleeding Shiner, Carmine Shiner, and Grass Pickerel. John helped with one of those, and Ham helped with five. My all-time flyfishing species list is now up to 70. 4 are Saltwater fish, 66 are Freshwater fish. I have more species on my all-time/all-tackle list... but I'm ignoring that. Among my favorite achievements for the year were catching 167 Grass Carp on flies, 100 Koi on flies, and 87 Goldfish on flies. And catching those 12 new-to-me flyrod species I listed above.
  4. This sounds like that other time, when the fishing was so bad, even the LIARS didn't catch anything!
  5. Especially because the dog will never admit which one tastes better! 😬
  6. pics of each side of one fish below...a recapture from July 28:
  7. ... and 16 Koi (exactly 100 for the year!):
  8. Flyfished Xmas Eve. Caught 8 Goldfish (87 for the year)....
  9. Yes, it was very fun experiencing new waters with someone who knows them well! @Ham
  10. Careful...it might be human.
  11. I think that person should post a screen capture of the ads he/she is seeing. 😁
  12. Thanks! A sculpin would have been cool too! I haven't caught one...THOUGHT I might have seen one follow my fly, but wasn't 100% sure.
  13. Not bad for mid-December.... took some days off work and headed south to fish with @Ham I caught 11 species on the fly rod. The two fish above, and these (plus some others):
  14. Finally caught a Northern Rock Bass in MO:
  15. With @Ham 's help, I saw some Chain Pickerel, but didn't catch any. Did catch a Grass Pickerel, though!
  16. (FND 46) Grass Pickerel Esox ittybittycuss Huge thanks to @Ham for locating this species! Hooked 2-3 each of the first 2 days, but they always flipped off the hook. Day 3 I got one to stay hooked!
  17. (FND45) Striped Shiner (with @Ham 😞 Blackeye tallscales
  18. (FND44) BLEEDING SHINER (3 pics of 1 individual fish): Blackeye aggressivus:
  19. Glad that fly works so good for you! I used to have an entire Amherst pelt. skin? I originally bought it to use those feathers as cheeks on shad-imitation streamers. Ended up not using very many feathers, and eventually sold the skin to somebody else.
  20. Thanks! I'm game! Who knows...maybe by this time next week I will add them to my "caught" list?
  21. "Snobbery is in the eye of the beerholder."
  22. I've got some St Croix spinnings rods. They are excellent, and very sensitive. You can feel the rejection when a fish swims by. 😄
  23. NICE! I've only fished the pond closest to home...it must not be any of the ponds you've fished! I haven't been too excited to fish for the trout this year...but I have done it. I've gotta give the goldfish and koi a break sometimes. 😁
