  1. I suppose one could use a twist on or clip on bobber that will stay put on the line....and when fighting the fish, when the bobber gets within reach, just reach out and remove it, so you can reel the fish in closer? Or grab the line to pull the fish to the boat/net when it gets close? Several other choices as well. Pick what works for you. But it really does work well. If the fish aren't spooked by your boat, I supposed the angler could do without the float and just tightline the jig over the side of the boat.
  2. Its fun learning from you guys. Lets be real, genus/species name memorizing is totally on the same skill level as juggling 3 Rubik's cubes and solving all 3 without dropping any in just minutes! I knew more names at one point than I do now... had to memorize them for a college Ichthyology class....over 30 years ago. But I confess I can neither juggle nor solve a Rubik's Cube. 😬 No, that's not me...
  3. Exactly. Slip bobber rig. When you reel in, the bobber can go down the line all the way to jig. When you cast out, the jig falls below the bobber to a predetermined depth...where you set that bobber stop. And that is a depth you can easily change as required. I knew guys in Iowa that would fish for walleyes that way. I never tried it.
  4. It's been my coldwater bass go-to for years. Typically was best October-early December, when it's been my best producer of big bass. Catches big fish for the waters I was fishing in Iowa... 18"-21.5". I use the fly rod version. And being shorebound, I found fishing along the first dropoff from shore to work the best for me, and I would typically set the jig 18"-22" below the bobber/indicator. So....not as deep as folks are often fishing in the big lakes of southern MO. I don't know where the big bass are in my area of MO yet, so I didn't try it much in the late Fall of 2020. Here's a pair of 20" bass caught on consecutive casts in November 2019: Here's an 18", 18.5" and 20.5" caught that same month. And a 20.5" from October 2019. 21" from late October 2019.
  5. Is anybody catching any fish near STL? Its been a struggle for me! You don't have to say WHERE you are fishing...just...what are you catching? I went out January 23rd (Saturday) and caught 2 trout and 1 crappie. Went back out the next day to two places and got skunked both places. OUCH! This past Saturday, I fished in the rain, even though the lake was 90% ice covered. Caught just one trout. Went to some flowing water, but it was high and muddy. Fished for a few minutes and gave up.
  6. Do you hate to see her go, but love to watch her leave?
  7. Atlantic Croaker, maybe?
  8. That's great! 👍

  10. Congratulations! 👍
  11. Manatees crashing baitfish. Or Narwhal. 😜 Maybe Croco-otters.
  12. (FND02) White Crappie (Notaperch notabream😞
  13. I've really liked the jigheads you made for me, Jim. Last weekend I was using some store-bought heavy duty fly jigheads that I've also really liked...and the lead fell off one head, and the hook broke on another. I was shocked! I'm sure it had nothing to do with the trees and brush I kept bouncing my fly off during backcasts.... 😄
  14. Ask Siri! She may not know everything, but she'll help you figure it out. 😜 Would checking the weather of Cape Fair tell you what you need, or does the local environment you want sit down in lower elevation from the rest of the town?
  15. Nice going, Oklahoma. They are recognizing that they are real, but Sasquatch are a people, not an animal. That's like opening a hunting season on Native American Indians. Over 100 DNA samples were collected from all across North America and tested by multiple independent labs. The results show a female contribution that is 100% match to humans, and a male contribution that is something completely unknown. Finding Bigfoot is a farce. Its been reported that Moneymaker uses reports people share with BFRO to locate and hunt/kill Sasquatch. There may be some bad apples with Sasquatch, just like there are with humans. Mostly they want to be left alone. They will use a variety of scare tactics to get humans to leave an area. If they wanted us dead, we would be. I've heard vocalizations in Canada I couldn't attribute to any known animal. I've heard tree knocks in Iowa and Missouri. I've had stuff thrown in the water near me from the woods while wading streams in Iowa and Missouri. My buddy glimpsed one chasing a deer near a trout stream we were fishing in NE Iowa. Tens of thousands of people have had encounters. I choose to believe most are telling the truth.
  16. In Iowa, some lakes have live cameras that you can check online to see what the lake conditions look like. Some just post an updated picture every couple of minutes, and you can go back and check previous times. Like...one time my buddy texted me while I was at work, told me to check the camera at a nearby lake. I did...and I could see my buddy walking out on the lake to do some icefishing. 😃 I don't know if there's anything like that in MO....maybe some other folks can chime in? Update...I found this TV weather camera feed for Table Rock....would this be helpful? https://www.ky3.com/page/table-rock-lake/
  17. Where did he find it?
  18. Shoot, I don't have a pickup. I sold my Hobie Outback kayak in 2018, replaced it with this Blue Sky Boatworks 360 Angler (part of Jackson Kayaks company). For which I have a trailer. I've only used it on lakes, not on moving water yet. Seems like it might be good enough for slower streams with water that doesn't require much dragging through. I've got a paddle and a pushpole, but neither of those is as efficient on this as the pedal/propellor.
  19. I find this intriguing. Are you floating solo? How do you manage your vehicle for the start and end of your float?
  20. 36 degrees and cloudy on Saturday, Jan. 16. I finally made it out flyfishing for the first time this year. Caught 15 Rainbow Trout in 3 hours. I only measured one...this one was 15":
  21. I'm finally on the board with my first species of the year. (FND01) Rainbow Trout (Borninto hatcherieseverywhere)
