  1. Crazy
  2. That's true. Most shelters won't take strays no matter how illogical. They go through animal control offices. It's a very flawed system. The fact that Springfield Humane Society went no-kill was a big deal. We've had nothing but rescues for 25 years from probably 4 or 5 different organizations. I can't even keep them all straight--the dogs or the shelters.
  3. Not many kill shelters left. I think none in SW MO, mostly because the spay and neutering programs are effective.
  4. I don't think people realize the number of animals in shelters around here. It's pretty astounding. There are more shelters that I can count and one in almost every town, so I'm not surprised other areas have strict laws/attitudes about spay/neutering.
  5. You're right. I better leave this thread....
  6. I don't fill out forms. It's just another way for the Man to keep me down.
  7. Has the swimbait replaced the curly tail grub?
  8. This is an incredibly informative thread! Just too cool. Love it!
  9. Agreed. You should do a youtube channel walking people through sites like this.
  10. My dad took me there when I was 12. It's what got me hooked on trout fishing. It's a beautiful place. Later when I was about 18 we went and I tried to teach him to fly fish. It did not go well. I could never get him to understand a drag-free drift. He sat there with bich (sp) creek nymph surfing on the surface of water wondering why they wouldn't hit it. smh....
  11. Pretty cool if you ask me. Keep testing!
  12. What happens to solar panels when it’s cloudy or raining? Is my Google the only one that works...?
  13. I hesitate to enter this fray, but here is a Solar Calculator (below). Seems the average payback is 12-15 years. Punch in your zip and see what others got or even your own address. Of course there are variables, as always. I only see energy prices going up. As you said @snagged in outlet 3, updating HVAC is a huge energy saver as well as lighting--LED vs CFL vs halogen vs incandescent (who GW Bush eliminated btw). LCD TVs pull half the watts as old tube TVs--so newer tech pulls less power. Newer energy star appliances help. Old fashioned farmhouse architecture with eves providing shaded over windows helps. As @ColdWaterFshr said, LEED architecture is more than a hobby and can make a building profitable. This isn't political spin, just facts. https://www.energysage.com/market/start/
  14. I am an English teacher, but I could give them to my Science department, after I'm done admiring them. Fossils absolute amaze me. In the Springfield area, you can't hardly pick up a rock without finding at crinoid fossil. I could look for hours!
  15. Nothing is more frustrating than watching a trout hot a strike indicator. They'll sniff the heck out of every dry in my box and strike, but slowly drift up and take a white palsa... ugh!
  16. Sounds so luxurious. Not really a mink kind of a girl, but I'd be willing to give it a try.
  17. so more like a pine squirrel streamer? That's pretty cool. I those a lot with squirrel and rabbit strips, sometimes on jig heads. Looks good.
  18. I agree. Your flies look better than mine. Just start choosing new patterns and seeing what happens.
  19. Scuds a good for practicing dubbing, since that's about all they are (plus a rib and an optional back). I think if you went to RR or Taney with the list provided, you'll catch fish. I like a san juan on a 1/80 or 1/00 oz jig head at RR in red. I wrap the shank with the chenille. It's easy to tie, gives good practice and is productive.
  20. Which version do I use? I tried tying up the Charlie Craven version but I suck at dubbing loops, so I just palmered the collar.
  21. I've had good luck with FishUSA. 3 or 4 rods w/ no trouble.
  22. You're a lucky man! My. wife calls flies "ties" instead of "flies."
  23. Too cool. Great report!
  24. Hot Spots for Better Nymphs
  25. The latest issue of Fly Tyer has an article on Hot Spot flies with a splash of color like that.
