Scuds a good for practicing dubbing, since that's about all they are (plus a rib and an optional back).
I think if you went to RR or Taney with the list provided, you'll catch fish.
I like a san juan on a 1/80 or 1/00 oz jig head at RR in red. I wrap the shank with the chenille. It's easy to tie, gives good practice and is productive.
Yes. I've also used them in the creek/rivers with a standup head. I remember reading at article from the Yamamoto newsletter once about 1/2 oz football heads.
I don't bass fish much in the winter, so my experience would be spring and summer. But I imagine you've forgotten more about bass fishing than I even know, but it's one of my confidence baits for what it's worth.
I got the Brad Pitt formula. It's a little uncomfortable, but I can feel my jaw squaring in the last few weeks.
I hope I can cast like his stuntman....
I don't know of the biology and behavior of the dace. I was just playing off the traditional Black Nose Dace bucktail streamer.
I was thinking of something that I could fish in high water at the tailwater, Powersite for whites or deep holes in the spring. I've got lead wire in addition to the cone, so it should sink fairly horizontally.
It may not catch fish, but it's a great outlet for my creative energy. You're right in that I could have definitely lived with leaving the hook shank with bare lead.
Just playing around. It's heavily lead-wrapped. I think it's a size 6 aberdeen? Green and white craft fur, red thread for gills. Made a couple with peacock herl bodies and the first was with tinsel. My tinsel was so narrow that I was too impatient to do it again.
