  1. State Park would be my suggestion. A couple more pontoons on that end of the lake won't hurt a thing.
  2. No comparison to all the spot-lock stuff and such but I switched from a MG Tour edition on my Champion to a MK Fortrex on my Ranger. Actually, I went thru 3 of the MG Tours in 6 years on the Champion. The Ranger is now 4 1/2 years old and the Fortrex is barely showing any signs of wear. And being a shallow-water guy at heart, I am rough on a trolling motor. Again, can't speak to all of the GPS spot-lock technology, but that Fortrex 101 is one tough cookie.
  3. Or Dead Lobster, as a buddy calls it.
  4. Donna throws a swimbait a LOT so I've done my share of looking for the right heads, and the best I've come across is the War Eagle Grubber. It has a single cable weed guard, a double keeper system that will hold just about any swimbait firmly in place without glue, and they have strong VMC hooks. They come in 3/16, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 ounce and are sold in 3-packs for around $5. They work exceptionally well with the 3.8 and 4.3 Keitech Fat Swing Impact, as well as the Keitech Easy Shiner. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/War_Eagle_Grubber_Weedless_Swimbait_Head/descpage-WEGRB.html
  5. What's a Ned?
  6. That's a dandy. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Sounds like you did a great job of not overthinking things or outsmarting yourselves. Sometimes that's the hardest part.
  8. Glad you guys wouldn't throw a feller under the bus or anything like that. ? ?
  9. Same here, my friend. Although I do have to remind mine occasionally on the golf course that there are usually four men in the foursome ahead of us who are slowing things down and one of me. Now if someone in the group behind us hits into us, the gloves are off regardless if it's 4 against 1.
  10. I think you have the right deal, abk. Especially since those rods are said to run a bit on the light side. Hope to see one soon.
  11. I like a MH in the 7-3 to 7-6 range for my C-rigs and FB jigs. Of course, I try to stay with the half-ounce weight in both of those. Half-ounce is far easier to pull across the craggy bottom of TR than heavier jigs/weights.
  12. No one likes a smart*** or an editor.
  13. Been throwing the blade for several weeks now with varied success. Donna and I also surfed the waves Sunday in the upper third of the White River. We had 18 total plus one walleye, but 15 of those were short, including the Walter. Water temps were 58-64 ... and mostly 60-61. Did catch my first Red Fin fish of the year and it was a dandy male LM, crowding 4 pounds. Thanks for the report Royal Blue and congrats on a darn good day. You matched the winning string in the BFL derby Saturday.
  14. Keep us down for the tater salad.
  15. Two things ... it would be a sad gathering if young uns weren't welcome. They are the future of our sport and we need to expose them to all of the positive aspects of it as we can. Free food and fellowship are positive aspects, by the way. Second, I see no need for wives or children to have to sign up for the forum unless Phil wants to pad the roster ... otherwise, I say we should include immediate family members as eligible participants in the tourney. Beyond that, sure is gonna be nice to have Mr. Reeves and all others present. Looking forward to it.
  16. I'm divided on how to respond when these things happen. I know the Christian thing to do is turn the other cheek, but the flesh is weak and I often end up reacting in a more aggressive way. I do believe that the more bullies are allowed to push people around, the more they will do just that. So I usually end up saying something and/or pulling around in front of them and continuing to fish.
  17. Darn fine article, Bill. Thanks for the insight on how to successfully pre-rig and store these rascally varmints.
  18. Nice job of beating out a limit. Donna and I fished Sunday and found conditions a lot like what you described. Glad you made a check and didn't end up in the participation trophy/Soft Kitty group. LOL
  19. Lots of solid points made here.
  20. Look jackwagon, people like me are directly responsible for advances in the treatment of anxiety and depression. So there. And by the way, your motor is ugly.
  21. Thanks for the good report.
  22. Done deal. Forgotten. Let's get back to fishing. Or golf. ??
  23. Bingo! More stroking of tender egos. Next step, everyone not in the check line can go to the scorer's tent to receive their participation trophies while a motherly female volunteer sings "Soft Kitty" to them.
