My wife and kids all make fun of me because apparently I can't drive by any body of water without slowing down. It doesn't matter if its a creek, river, pond, lake or ocean. I'll never grow up I guess.
Welcome to the madness.
I don't think being honest is the same as being negative. At least we still fish. Well wrench does I'm sure. I just cast in the front yard but my catch rate hasn't went down.
I have nothing to offer. I hate it that you have to struggle to find a decent spot and that people are so uptight that they can't let you fish the neighborhood ponds. You would think they would appreciate a young guy just trying to enjoy the outdoors.
All I can say it to keep on keeping on. Fish where you can, catch what you can and enjoy all of it.
And post a report when you can. You might not think anyone is interested but that's not true.
Good luck.
Don't feel ashamed I can't remember it either and I spent a fair amount of time harassing him in that shop. I remember going to his visitation with my dad and his friends and seeing that he was a navy pilot at one time or something like that. I figured if he couldn't make it out of that one then somebody like me had no chance so I've worn the life jacket religiously ever since.
As a young college kid Foster was pretty intimidating at first. But I respected him so we had a good relationship. Even though to an outsider it would always look like he was riding my butt about something.
I remember Foster. He was a good guy but a very stern guy. Seems like he liked to flag me down at the most annoying time to make sure I had a float cushion. He seemed to live to harass me but I never minded talking to him.
In 92 was that the boat mechanic that worked out of 83 Marina? He was a good guy too. I always wore my life jacket after that.
You never know when that will happen but it is for sure NOT a certain age. My 17 year old will go anytime but my 12 year old has decided she is done. Keep at it and she may never quit.
So what you are saying is that the government is going to pass on all that extra tax money because they have a tender heart for fish? I think not. They won't even do that for it's citizens. I don't think you have any chance in getting the government to help control this. I'm all for it but politicians are all for money.
My answer will always be otherwise.
Used to get off work on Friday afternoon and drive 7 or 8 hours to Lake Fork with a buddy. Fish all day Saturday and half the day on Sunday and then drive home. Made that trip a bunch and some times your two fish would have been the best trip we had.
To me it's more than just catching a fish. Yes I love to catch fish more than anything. And Yes I love catching the big ones. But more than anything I just love going fishing with friends. That enjoyment begins when I pull out of the driveway. I don't have to have a line in the water to be having a good time.
It's about time to retire that particular pair of shorts.
Yeah they never mentioned that one on the local news. I kept waiting for it but it never happened. These are the reasons I am nervous about taking my family floating.
Several years ago on the James I saw a lady squirt a guy with a water gun. He was pissed. He chased her all around a gravel bar swing a paddle at her as hard as he could while her friends just watched. As bad as I wanted to stop and intervene, I had two of my daughters with me so all I could do was paddle on by and hope somebody in her group grew a pair. It's truly sad the way people act out on our waterways.
Yes I was. Have to try to keep up.
Springfield Lake has ALWAYS had quality fish in it. That's not something new. I used to spend quite a bit of time on it back in the early 90's when you could put a full grown bass boat on it without everyone freaking out. Back in those days there was nobody else fishing it. We never caught any real monsters on it but had enough fun with the 5 and 6 lbers. It still holds quality fish. Lack of access makes it perfect.
