Dear Landowner: WDFWR Staff will be conducting surveys for foothill yellow-legged frogs & other amphibians over the next few months. As part of this research we would like to survey the creek on your property. I am writing this letter to request your permission to access your property. Recent research indicates that foothill yellow-legged frogs have declined significantly in recent years and are no longer found at half their historic sites. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated and will help contribute to the conservation of this important species. Please fill out the attached postage-paid postcard and let us know if you are willing to let us cross your property or not. If you have any concerns about this project please give us a call. We would love to talk with you about our research. Sincerely Steve Nemel Conservation Strategy Implementation Biologist ***************************** ****************************** ****************************** ***************************** RESPONSE FROM LANDOWNERS: Dear Mr. Nemel: Thank you for your inquiry regarding accessing our property to survey for the yellow-legged frog. We may be able to help you out with this matter. We have divided our 2.26 acres into 75 equal survey units with a draw tag for each unit. Application fees are only $8.00 per unit after you purchase the "Frog Survey License" ($120.00 resident / $180.00 Non-Resident). You will also need to obtain a "Frog Habitat" parking permit ($10.00 per vehicle). You will also need an "Invasive Species" stamp ($15.00 for the first vehicle and $5.00 for each add'l vehicle) You will also want to register at the Check Station to have your vehicle inspected for Non-native plant life prior to entering our property. There is also a Day Use fee, $5.00 per vehicle. If you are successful in the Draw you will be notified two weeks in advance so you can make necessary plans and purchase your "Creek Habitat" stamp. ($18.00 Resident / $140.00 Non-Resident). Survey units open between 8 am. And 3 PM. But you cannot commence survey until 9 am. And must cease all survey activity by 1 PM. Survey Gear can only include a net with a 2" diameter made of 100% organic cotton netting with no longer than an 18 in handle, non-weighted and no deeper than 6' from net frame to bottom of net. Handles can only be made of BPA-free plastics or wooden handles. After 1 PM. You can use a net with a 3" diameter if you purchase the "Frog Net Endorsement" ($75.00 Resident / $250 Non-Resident). Any frogs captured that are released will need to be released with an approved release device back into the environment unharmed. As of June 1, we are offering draw tags for our "Premium Survey" units and application is again only $8.00 per application. However, all fees can be waived if you can verify "Native Indian Tribal rights and status". You will also need to provide evidence of successful completion of "Frog Surveys" and your "Comprehensive Course on Frog Identification, Safe Handling Practices, and Self-Defense Strategies for Frog Attacks." This course is offered on-line through an accredited program for a nominal fee of $750.00. Please let us know if we can be of assistance to you. Otherwise, we decline your access to our property but appreciate your inquiry.

I'm guessing that bear saw a creature with a huge head and large staring eyes in his fishing hole and decided he was going to run it off.

Seattle Kraken doing some sort of promotional video, local brown bear apparently not a fan.

As much as I am outdoors I'm sure there have been some close by that I did not see. One of the ones I saw on Table Rock was on a steep rocky bank. The cat's coloration blended in well with the rocks. I was fishing the bank, pretty close to the cat and it moved and that caught my eye. If it had stayed still I would never have seen it. It just walked away slowly.
-
That's pretty neat. I have only seen 2 bobcats, both at Table Rock, in my entire life.
-
Congrats, that is a chunk!
-
That's a possibility, the bird never moved.

As far as I know they have quit making Surge Shads, so the Red Fin would be the best option left. There have been a lot of wake baits that have come on the market in the last few years, bound to be some other good ones out there. I like the look of these 6th Sense lures. Have not fished one. 6th Sense Fishing - Speed Wake

HAHA did not get a chance to talk to him. No eye patch however. Or peg leg.

Well it was a big bust for me. I caught 5 small bass. Just could not find them. It was 59 degrees right before I got to the ramp, which felt great. A lot of guys out there fishing today. The attendant at the park was riding around in a golf cart when I came in picking up litter. He had a parrot on his shoulder. That is something you don't see every day, somebody with a parrot on their shoulder. WT 86 - cooled down a little.

That's a pretty neat trip!

Dude, you are en fuego!

That is my favorite bite - a buzzbait bite.

They are moving in around here. A black bear caused a stir in an east Fayetteville neighborhood Saturday morning before being safely relocated, officials said. Fayetteville police officers responded to reports of the bear cub on Aug. 2. FPD spent a few hours working with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the Fayetteville Fire Department and nearby neighbors to monitor the animal and guide it away from homes, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

For tungsten their prices are pretty good. I wish their Ned heads had a weed guard. But they have a ball head with a guard that will work as a Ned. Buy Tungsten Weedless Ball Jig Head at the Best Price on Nako

I thought that only happened in Florida. 😃 -
10 years ago, I was not paranoid about hooks. Now, I am. Whenever I catch a striper with a top water treble bait, I am VERY careful getting the hooks out of the fish. The thought of a 10 lb. fish attached to a treble hook that is attached to me gives me the willies.

Watched a PBS show last night "Human Footprint" it was about extinction. There's a segment on Chestnuts. They mentioned there are 4 adult chestnuts that somehow have survived the fungus, they showed one of them, kind of an ugly tree, but a survivor. If you are interested in the chestnut story, you might want to catch a rerun or it may be available on the web.

Jerk baits are scary. Last time I got stuck it was a treble on a top water. Dutch was with me that day, had him do the line trick and it came right out. Bled like crazy afterwards, but no pain. And that reminds me, make sure to have a first aid kit that has functional bandages. Those band-aids will dry out over time and are worthless once they dry out.

Dutch gave me the idea for these grippers. Plastic, they don't hurt the fish but lock firmly onto the fish. Little ones are still a pain to get off however and as Bill mentioned those are the dudes that get you. Cheap too at $7.50 so you can have a couple of them rattling around the boat.
