They are a great fish to catch, but man I have to do a lot of fishing to catch a couple.

Rolled over to Indian this morning, thought about going over to Table Rock but I wanted to check and see if there was any striper top water activity around Indian, and to get the striper stuff out of the way, I saw very little of anything that would indicate stripers in the area. Went back into Indian first thing in the AM and fished the banks, just wasn't a lot going on, there are some spots coming up chasing small shad and if you are close enough to them when they come up and get a top water on them, they'll hit it. However, they are running small, 10-12" on average. I caught about a half dozen of the little dudes and decided this is not how I wanted to spend my time and moved out to the main basin area down by the dam and looked for smallies. Smallie bite was slow, caught 2 decent ones and a couple of small ones fishing a Keitech near the bottom in water 10-30 feet deep. Surface temp - 64.

Not a bad day for fishing today, a little chilly but not much wind and no rain.

Scrolled through the results, which are in some kind of random order, not from best to last, so I may have missed a few, but looks like the leader is 14-3, next is 13-1. Lots of zeroes and small bags. You could weigh in 5 keeper spots and be in contention. I was out Wednesday, caught a little over 20 bass, but only one was a keeper. This is a bit embarrassing... Bird hunting out in Nebraska about 10 years ago, I unloaded my shotgun, set it leaning on the rear tire, and put the dog in his kennel, hopped into the truck and drove to the next spot that was about 10 miles away. Get there, get ready to go and realized I had no shotgun. Drove like a mad man back to the spot I had parked, shotgun was still there lying on the side of the road. It was a gravel road in the farming country, so not a lot of traffic and I got lucky.

Something I forgot to mention in my report is that the gar are schooling and are just thick in some spots. If the water is calm it is pretty easy to spot them as they are up on top and swirling, and I assume eating shad. I don't know how much longer they will be up as it gets colder. Was looking around for some gar videos and found this one - the guy does a good job on explaining on how to make a rope lure and then proceeds to catch a few.

Cool, I made my donation so now I am in too. I'm hoping for a 20" smallie. Extremely unlikely, but a man has to have goals.

Got out today, cold start to the morning but overall it was a beautiful fall day. The fishing was tough, not real tough, but I had to fish hard for what I caught. Could catch one here and there but never found a hot spot, did a lot of moving around, mainly fishing points and rocky banks. Caught some Ned fish, most of them were shallow, couldn't get a Ned bite out past about 10 FOW. Got a few deep ones on a 3.3 Keitech, slow rolling it off the bottom in 20 FOW. Main channel for the most part, I didn't get back in any coves - probably need to start checking that out to see if they are moving into the backs. Caught 14, 3 keepers. Mix of spots and smalls. Zero largemouth. Didn't see much top water activity but there are small shad everywhere. WT 67. My biggest fish.
