  1. I'm always curious about place names, so I googled "Aux Vases". "Aux vases" is a French phrase that translates to "with mud" or "river with miry places" in English. It was the original name of Auxvasse Creek, a tributary of the Mississippi River, which was named by French explorers. The name refers to the quicksand and soggy conditions around the creek, especially at crossings.
  2. Kept a sturgeon form the Columbia river. Got home late that night, put the sturgeon in a big cooler with ice with plans to clean it the next day. it was still alive the next day. Not barely alive either. Last one I ever kept; they aren't that good as far as eating.
  3. Just looked at the 10 day - 70's and 80's though the 27th, no rain in sight. We could use some rain, but if it's not going to happen, I can live witjh this weather. 75 right now without a cloud in the sky.
  4. Fished 2 days in a row, something I usually don't do when fishing Table Rock with the one-hour drive added to the fishing time, it makes for a couple of long days. Yesterday the fishing was pretty good, so with a similar weather forecast I thought today would fish just as well, but it did not. Caught 17 yesterday, with 4 keepers, but just 8 today with only one keeper. A 7/16 oz finesse jig made by the Dutch Manufacturing Company, Republic MO, was my best bait with a few on a 3.3 Keitech and a few on the c-rigged craw. Fish are up shallow, chasing little one inch shad and small craws. I can't catch anything deeper that about 10 feet. Very little top water activity. Even with the frosty mornings the water temp is hanging in there at 71.
  5. Enjoyed fishing today. There's a spot where the road out of Big M intersects with HWY 86. It's on top of a ridge and on a day like today with low humidity you can see way off into the distance. Neat view.
  6. This may have been the story I remember: Truck Kills 11 Elk On I-90 -- Ten Cows, Calf Run Into Tractor- Trailer Rig West Of Cle Elum | The Seattle Times
  7. Washington state is known for rain, but also has quite a bit of high desert in the central part of the state. There was some great chukar hunting. Good trout fishing too, and elk. I remember an accident that happened on I-90 not far from where I lived. Truck ran into a herd of elk that were in the freeway at night, killed something like 10 of them.
  8. Nice looking creek.
  9. Spoke too early about the top water bite, we could not find it today. Cold north wind had them down, saw very little on top except for gar. Speaking of gar, Dutch had an encounter with a 4 footer, dived under the boat, came up on the other side, jumped and broke off. We caught something like 18 bass and a couple of walleye. We had 2 good smallmouth, most of the rest a mix of less than 15" spots and smallies. Dutch did have another keeper sized smallie. 2.8 and 3.3 swimbaits were our best baits, c-rigged craws got us several too. Jigs were slow, I think we only got one or two jig fish. Best bites were on gravel banks and a rocky point. Nothing deep, deepest fish may have been out in 10-15 FOW. Quite a few eagles flying around today. WT 73
  10. Just read my copy of the Weekly Vista and there is an announcement that the Fly Fishing Film Tour 2024 will have a showing in Fayetteville at Theater Squared, 477 W. Spring St., Fayetteville AR. Tickets are $25, starts at 5:30 PM and runs until 10:00 PM, October 17. Probably won't go myself, but thought I would pass it on. Flyfilmtour.com for more info.
  11. Turn the tables on them, when you're fishing your bait caster stuff and some fly fishermen drift by, give them "the look", before they give it to you. 😃
  12. November is a good time to come down.
  13. Wow, that's a huge trout! I would guess those fish have not seen a lot of jerk baits, you could be in for some great fishing.
  14. Yeah, hated to see them get knocked out, but they were competitive with the Yanks, it's not like they got blown out. And Ness you are right, one heckuva season especially considering they lost 106 games last year. I'm hoping they can add a bat or two during the off-season. A shutdown closer would be a nice add too.
  15. Finally found a top water bite today, found it in 2 locations, first one was near a long point with timber, the second was in a little pocket. The fish near the point were over 30-50 FOW and the pocket fish were in 10-15 FOW. They were up on top chasing one inch shad, hard to miss them. Both places they chased for an hour or so, then it died off. Caught them on an Evergreen Shower Blow 100. Mostly spotted bass with a few largemouth. Right before I left, I threw the c-rigged craw across a point by Big M, caught a few on it, including a couple of smallmouth. Had one hard puller that got off. Boated 27 today, with 4 keepers, no outstanding fish size wise, but fun to get on top. They were pretty aggressive today, if they missed it, keep walking that bait and they'd come back for it. Had a couple that knocked the plug 2 feet in the air. I had a couple that spit out 8-10 shad by the boat. Air temp was 85 when I left, love this weather, but looks like a cool-down in the works next week. WT 74
  16. Looks to me like Boby is trying to do too much. Swinging at a lot of pitches out of the strike zone. And the Yankees have a pretty good pitching staff, have to give them credit.
  17. I know several people that have had the surgery and they've all been very happy with the results.
  18. Forgot to add that I got checked by the wardens today at the ramp. First time on Beaver that I have been checked.
  19. I was back today and it wasn't happening. Caught one and only one smallmouth. Briefly hooked a freight train on my wimpy drop shot rod, but it pulled off, I bet it was a striper. However the stripers were not on top today. I can't figure it out, maybe it was the north wind.
  20. Yeah, you hate to hear that.
  21. I'd like to hear how you're doing, FFS or not.
  22. Got the split in NY. I like their chances at the K.
  23. That jig bite was a squirrely one, I take a little pride in being able to detect jig bites, but I bet I had a half dozen at least that I thought were bites, but never reacted to in time. Swung and missed on several and had 4 or 5 throughout the morning that chased the jig back to the boat. Just a funny day, I blame it on the weather. Weather was great, a bit chilly to start but really nice when we left. Did not see a cloud the entire day. We saw several turkeys down by the lake. Thanks for the trip buddy!
