The reason that stuff doesn't make the "news" is most people don't care what those folks are doing. A good chunk of the fishermen out there don't know or care about a lot of that research.

Out at the crack of dawn, fished until 0930. I went up Indian Creek today, fished the timber. It was slow, caught 4 smallmouth, one was solid 18" fish. Had another good one that got off right at the boat. Jigs fished from the bank and worked out to 20 feet or so was what I caught my fish on, threw a crank for a bit, no bites on it. WT 84

Guy that lived across the street from me when I lived in Washington was killed by hornet stings. He was allergic to them. Out at hunting camp, he was cutting some firewood, disturbed a nest of them and they got him.

They tried to remove the smallies in a NY lake and they found that it resulted in even more smallmouth, albeit smaller in size and more skittish. Invasive Adirondack smallmouth bass evolve to counter control efforts

Thanks for the write-up. Would certainly like to visit Normandy someday, but don't know if I'll ever make it. I've read several books about D-Day and the campaign in NW France. A good one, if you are interested, is Six Armies in Normandy by John Keegan.

Lake is dropping, almost 2 feet in the last week.

I have one cherry tomato plant and it is starting to yield. Planted cukes a little late, but they are looking good, should get some cukes soon. Asparagus plants are now 1 year old, growing well, and I hope to start harvesting next year. Got a good rain yesterday afternoon, it's been hot and dry, so it was needed.

Happy to see them moving water out of the lakes, but not sure how they are getting around the Newport gauge limits.

Thanks for the write-up. I want to make a smallmouth trip on one of the great lakes one of these days.

Cow anxiety

Buddy of mine used some brand of garlic spray on his bass plastics. Didn't seem to result in more bass catches, but it definitely caught some cats.

Yeah, gonna try this myself.

Last summer, the James above Flat creek was loaded with gar. I've never seen them that thick. Dunno if it holds true this year, but that would be a great place to throw a fly for them. With the high water it may be tough to get in the lake up there though.

Catfish Po-Boy: Fried Catfish Po-Boy With Cajun Slaw 2 pounds catfish fillets (flathead catfish belly meat is even better for this recipe) 6 cups yellow cornmeal 2 cups Louisiana fish fry — red box Salt, pepper, garlic and Cajun seasoning to taste Oil to fry Cajun Slaw: 1 bag of pre-cut slaw mix ½ cup ketchup ½ cup mayo ½ cup horseradish mustard ¼ cup olive oil 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon lemon juice In a large bowl, mix the cornmeal, fish fry and seasoning. Cut the fish into ½-inch-wide strips about 5 inches long. Toss the meat in the bowl, let sit while you heat the oil to 350 degrees. Once oil is heated, carefully add your fish, making sure not to crowd the fryer. Fry about 5 minutes or until crispy and golden brown. Drain on paper towels, repeat until all fish is cooked. Mix mayo, ketchup, mustard, oil, lemon juice and seasonings in a bowl. Mix in cabbage. Can be refrigerated for up to two days. Assemble the sandwich by toasting a hoagie, add a layer of fish, topped with slaw. Enjoy with fries and hushpuppies.

It will be interesting to see how that works out on Grand.

Been a while since I have caught a walleye.

Met up bright and early with Dutch. There was an early bite, it wasn't great but we did catch some smallmouth, I believe we caught 15 or so with a couple of chunky keepers. 3/8 oz jig was our best bait, with a couple on c-rigged craws, and one spot on a top water. We got our fish working steep rocky banks. We caught our last fish about 0830, we fished from then until 0945 without a bite and decided it was time to go. WT 83
