  1. I was really wanting to do a float on the Jack's Fork this weekend but can't come up with any info about the closure. STL Today stated on Tues that the rivers in ONSR was closed to floaters. I do know there is alot of private land around Eminence, surely there is private access that the Federal Gov. can't block. Has anyone came up with a confirmation that you can not float the Jack's Fork?
  2. Nice work. But I tend to use Spandoflage. Works like a charm, makes the gun sticky in your hands, and peels off without damaging the original finish. Or damaging the resale value of said gun. I stay away from factory camo jobs, it usually dates the gun to the period in time it was made. Camo patterns change year to year. Always fun to walk around a gun show and see some of the old factory camo jobs.
  3. It was a slap in the face to the laid off workers to be called Non-Essential. In reality, the only essential workers still getting checks are the ones that protect the life and health of the American Citizens, for the most part Law Enforcement. Can't have a bunch of disgruntled law enforcement in case the SHTF. They could have used another term other than Non-Essential. No need to belittle average Joe's just out trying to make an honest living. I personally would call Congress, President, and all of their staff, Non Essential. They have been good for nothing for the past 5 years or longer.
  4. 20" fish or better are usually caught. 4 or 5 lb smallies on the lake have been caught by my buddies down there. I always seem to hit it during a slow time or with goofy weather. Spring of the year prespawn is a great time.
  5. I have a Blackberry with no Data Plan. If I had the net and email on the phone, I would be more accessible and accounted for. As it is now, call me, I will call you.
  6. Your right, I forgot about that. But is it the State Forestry Service or Federal. The trails and accesses are Federal marked if I recall. And he states that Greer Campground is closing due to the Feds.
  7. I only float it from 21 to Leadwood. Don't know what it looks like below.
  8. Its funny, those drum seem to like those tube jigs we use down there. We always catch at least one a trip. Last trip to Pickwick a month ago, I hooked one about twice the size of that one, put up a nice fight.
  9. According to Brian, the Eleven Point is open and it is a part of the ONSR.
  10. I had the opportunity to fish TN Rivers again this weekend. I have added that state to my arsenal of Annual Fishing Permits. I don't know what it is about the state, but smallies grow there good. In lakes and rivers. It is a little over a 5 hour drive and a jet boat makes it nice for fishing. We arrived at the ramp and was in the water around 2:30 Sat. Run up the river past canoes and jon boats loaded with fishermen. Got past them all and starting fishing their back water. My first fish of the day was a small 10 incher, but it inhaled the large tube jig down so far I could barely reach it with my finger. Gotta love the the muscles in the throat of a fish contracting on your finger while you are down in there trying to get the hook out. The rest of the evening was good, picked up some nice ones after 4 but no bigun's. Best fish was a 19" one caught by my buddy. Mine was only 18". Several were 16 or better with around 40 into the boat. Water was falling from a big rain that rose the river last weekend and it was off color. I really would like to hit it when it is clear and you can see the structure. That is when the fishing is the best. One big drum on a tube jig, put up a good fight too.
  11. And gas is getting cheaper than it has been since 2008.
  12. Justin, as a concessionaire, do they have the right to close your access? You did sign a contract for a certain amount of time until it comes up for bid again.
  13. Of course, the shocking may have injured it and it ended up as turtle food.
  14. The reason I found it, I was checking on a Jack's Fork trip this weekend. NWS killed that with a front and thunderstorms on Sat, but the disclaimer was there too.
  15. Where did the red Oak Leaf and Buttercrunch come from? Did it cross with some Ruby?
  16. They ship snakes in bags? How do they survive a trip?
  17. That run looks like one below Irondale, there is a private camp on the North side with a high bank and a grass weedbed that always gives up a few bass. But the river would have to be up some to have that much water.
  18. So the river is open for business and all of the access to it?
  19. Who is there to collect Federal Taxes now?? Did they shut them down and declare a Federal Tax Holiday since there is nothing to spend it on? Not spending money won't hurt them. The shutdown did not phase Wall Street today. The only ones that hurt when you stop spending money is private business. Government just raises the tax rate to increase their income if they don't have enough to spend. Or they print more of it. That is why we are here today, no Fiscal Responsibility. Some are trying to make the Government become Fiscally Responsible and they are being made out as the bad guys.
  20. State owned facilities should remain open, they are funded by different taxes. But the Federal Government, aka Corps of Engineers, control the riverways. I would think our State Government should step in and seize control until they get the Federal mess straightened out.
  21. Try finding any info on anything fun on the web now. Ozark Scenic Riverways sites, USGS.gov, NOAA, all have big postings stating the following. Due to the Federal government shutdown, usgs.gov and most associated web sites are unavailable. Only web sites necessary to protect lives and property will be maintained. What a crock. We really need a major overhaul of our Government. I want a tax refund for failure to provide.
  22. Hard to tell, they shut down the websites too. http://www.nps.gov/shutdown/index.html
  23. Most pics of snake handling in the Ozarks usually involve alcohol. That was an extremely large one and looks like she needed to shed. They are really colored nicely when they are fresh shed.
  24. Ahh, I awoke this morning to the sweet sound of a government shutdown. But nothing really shuts down except the good things we all enjoy. Federal Courthouses, Mail, Military, Police, etc. still in operation. They just close the stuff we enjoy like the parks and monuments. Nothing really changes, they are still spending money like wild pigs in a corn patch today, without a budget again.
