  1. Bird season is over, football is done. This is the crummiest time of the year. About the only thing I've got going on is getting some seeds started for the garden. I need to get my butt down to the Jungle Room and finish up a fl yrod I started a while back, tie some flies, and maybe get some poppers and/or cranks going. The video fishinwrench posted in the bass fishing thread got the blood pumping.
  2. I heard fur-bearing mammals have hired a publicist to try and distance themselves from that coat.
  3. I dunno. The guy's got a screw loose.

    Dry Aged Beef

Thanks for the tip. I always thought his show was the best one on FoodTV. I can't stand the channel now -- with all the contrived competitions, staged restaurant spying, etc.
  5. Well, I don't like the Broncos, so I enjoyed the game. I also enjoyed Namath throwing the 'interception' at the coin toss. What a doofus. It's hard to figure out how such a good team can so completely fail like that. Super Bowls are often mediocre games, but that was embarrassing.
  6. Declaration of Independence thing made me cry. Anybody else?

    Dry Aged Beef

Alton Brown did a Good Eats show on it a few years back. Not sure if you can find that online, but Food Network usually keeps all the recipes.
  8. Mitch - has Chloe been in the fly tying stuff? I've had that happen a few times myself.
  9. That's our Brittany puppy Ruby.
  10. I have a friend that had a GSP, and that dog spent its whole life in a run he had built in his back yard. That is, except for the 3-4 days he took her out to hunt each year. I just couldn't do that to a dog. We've got a minimum of twelve legs in our bed every night, occasionally 16 if the cat sneaks in. But, I realize there are two schools of thought on dogs. We crate depending on the dog. Max doesn't need it when he's alone. Our 6 month old definitely needs it -- she'll get into any and everything, and still chews when she's bored. She's content in the kennel. They both ride in kennels in the car when we're out on bidness, but I'll let them on the seats occasionally running errands, or whatever. Marty -- the guy you're describing sounds like the kind I hate to see with an e-collar. One more...
  11. Hah! Nice shots, everybody. Like the last one BH. Our dogs are definitely part of the family, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Since they do most of the work when we're out, I treat them pretty well. Here's a shot from a couple years back: Greensburg, KS motel after a day of hunting: I have an e-collar, but I generally only use the tone, not the shock. Matter of fact, my 5 year old has never had the shock. Our old dog was pretty hard-headed and would get it every once in a while, but the tone was usually enough for her.
  12. Man that was very cool. Not like anything I've ever seen before. Those browns were chunks!
  13. Couple of friend's dogs and my Molly on the right. Good Ol' Rocky was waiting for the girls to finish. Max Max with a typical Brittany point -- can't tell if they're peeing or pointing Max stylin'
  14. Rat -- I've heard the same thing. Kinda scary all the things going on in the natural world these days. Lots of imbalance out there. Haven't seen a Monarch around here in a couple years, but I'm only one data point. On a related note -- I just read an article saying it was probably not a good idea to walk behind the truck spraying stuff to kill mosquitos back in the 60's. I guess that DDT stays in your system for a while, and there are some side effects. I thought it smelled pretty good, but that's probably not a good indicator.
  15. That's a great picture, LRF. It made me smile. FYI -- for photos, I use Dropbox, which is a free service for syncing up files on two computers. For me, it's usually files between home and work computers. But, Dropbox includes a "public" folder, which is where I post the pictures I use here and other places. I haven't thought about resizing in a while -- I guess my workflow for posting pics has become pretty routine. Regardless, Dropbox is a great tool.

    Greenhouse Plans

I thought it looked a little tight in there. Having that slab is a nice start on all this. Is this your home or another property?

    Greenhouse Plans

Are you going to have enough sunlight in there?
  18. Interesting article, MO. I wonder, has the statute of limitations for OA flogging of the bow hunter who shot a wolf with an ear tag and collar in 2001 run out yet?
  19. Well, I guess I'm not surprised. The business of government can't really be accomplished in an open forum like that. I think I would have enjoyed hearing some of the crazies and their wild ideas, for the entertainment value only. Some folks can't pass up the chance to get behind a microphone. There are probably forums in which the real good stuff gets discussed, but I guess you'd have to be way more involved than I'll ever be to be privy to that stuff. I don't feel guilty about that, it's just the way it is. Not enough hours in the day. Back to work
  20. Good for you! Sounds like a good gig and a good future too.

    Greenhouse Plans

That's just what I did a few years back Wayne. It holds about 10 flats. Greenhouse would be cool too and a place to store some stuff.
  22. I gave that video about 60 seconds.
  23. It's all about hate for me. I hate Bilichick, Brady, Elway and the Broncos. I like Manning. So, the hate scale was tipped slightly more to the Pats and I had to root for the Broncos in the playoffs. That ends now. Go Seahawks.
  24. Man, those old ones are priceless. I wish I could lay my hands on some old pics of my own, but they've been lost to time.
