  1. Again, please show performance and price. Proof is in the pudding.
  2. Not cheap. Lead is natural in the environment. Go to your gun safe or where you keep your ammo. What percentage is lead based? Are you ready to give it up and go unleaded? So maybe you are possibly no longer into shooting sports and really do not care anymore. Does this mean the rest should be penalized? I know you fish. Are you using all unleaded? Rick, you know I am not personally picking on you here. I am putting this out there to all sportsmen and sportswomen.
  3. When you can constantly hit a quarter or a dime at 50 yards with one of those let me know. There is a reason why lead is the gold standard. Guys I brought this to your attention because it can happen here too. Just takes one foot in the door and then they can push it in. Maybe not in your lifetime but maybe your children or grandchildren. It is not a question of it happening it's when will it happen?
  4. How many of you in this deal are taking steps to stop this travesty? Are you and your followers doing anything about it? Contact your congress man or woman and get something done? I have never called you out for disputing scientific facts. I have asked you to show us and backup your theories. Yes, you have shown us strange anomalies in white bass. Do you realize there are genetic anomalies in humans, other animals, fish and fowl? I think you should smoke a few cigs and take a few shots of whiskey and chill out. Get your panties out of a wad. There are more animals killed by motor vehicles and birds from green energy wind turbines than will expire from lead exposure. All this was a PSA for something that should be addressed before other things.
  5. Hey there old buddy what makes you assume you know what I think?
  6. Did you read this? Effects your air rifle. The term firearm means any weapon which expels ammunition by the action of an explosive or compressed air.
  7. Not a good deal folks, they are coming for your lead ammunition in the near future. Text of H.R. 405: LEAD Act of 2021 (Introduced version) - GovTrack.us
  8. Awe really doesn't matter. Most straddle the center of the river. Go to opposite sides so they can see the lean when it fits the photographers view at the moment.
  9. Whoo Hoo! Here we go look out fishes there is a new tyer in town.

    What's Cooking?

Time to cook some beaver :). Kept three hind quarters. Had visited with a guy during duck season that said he cooked beaver and pulled it like pork in his pellet smoker. He actually skinned and gutted his and separated in half and smoked and picked the whole beast. I thought not and decided to try just the back quarters. So they were seasoned and slid into the pellet grill for approx. three hours. Did one off the larger beaver and then both sides off the smallest one. Then taken off and drizzled with Billethead honey and for moisture a slosh of beer added to the foil package. One contained the small beaver and the other the single giant hind quarter. Wrapped up tight and put back on grill for another approx. three hours. Removed and opened packets. From the small ones ready to fall apart, Check out the smoke ring. All pulled apart, The big leg was put in crock pot on low to finish with the retained juices from the packets. Still too tough to pull. Now on low and will pull in the morning. So some sweet Hawaiian onion buns, a shot of BilletHead BBQ sauce and cheesy fried potatoes. My thoughts were great and am a bit ashamed I did not take the rest of the hind quarters. I would say to relay the taste between beef and pork without the fattiness of the pork. Have eaten the backstrap before and will utilize the ones I kept off the big one. Will section it off, pound some and fry. Gravy will be made with the drippings.
  11. The eating part is next. Continue on the what's cooking on the food thread.
  12. They will catch. 😉
  13. The likeness of the float and fly I really like Nick. Good job.
  14. Correct, We were out driving around three weeks ago. Near Montagaw Springs. Seen something dead in the ditch that just looked out of place. had Pat turn around to see what it was. Pelican. Head straight out and wings spread out. Tiny body. Figured one of those outlaws on the river shot it and decided not to cook it up.
  15. Sending them your way Curt! Enjoy buddy!
  16. That will give the shad underneath them something to eat. Would that give the shad mad shad disease? Eating some of themselves after a trip through a pelican digestive system?
  17. No, I was told it was overrated so will probably never know. It was said they ate it for the fat calories. Not if they destroyed your pond
  18. You know you are committed if you keep worms in your refrigerator. Well played John. Not only worms but leeches have been in mine. I once ordered 12 dozen leaches out of Minnesota. Thats a bunch of leeches. Kept them in a couple gallon glass jars. Had to change water weekly. That was a pain, but they did catch a bunch of fish .
  19. I don't think so Willis :). I would be happy just to be a whisker on Jim Bridgers beard.
  20. Well, another request from a neighbor for some beaver damage. What the heck I'll give it a whirl. In a pond and I am very familiar with this place. Started fishing this pond in 1977 and hunted it in high school for ducks. Been through three landowners since. It has aged just like me and now is at a fraction of where it once was, just like me . Grabbed a half dozen 330s. I have respect of these traps. They can be downright scary. Still some frost in the ground so day one drove truck in and set them. Looked like a bomb had gone off. So, so much damage. Beavers do what beavers do but good grief this was bad. Dam completely undermined with dens. A little island and two peninsulas the same. Trees destroyed. Sad from when I first found this place. Caught my first big bass out of here in 76. Seven and a quarter pounds. Old fiberglass rod with a Abu Garcia 5000-bait caster loaded with braded Dracon line. The white stuff with the black thread in it, pretty stuff to a kid. Set four den sets, a castor sent set and below the dam in a slide where it enters another three small ponds the beaver had made from the seepage leak the little dam builders had created. This was all done on Monday before the front and storm we just had. Now to the checking the next morning Tuesday. Took the ATV because leaving Monday the thaw I created some ruts with truck. First den set I was greeted with one catch. Then I checked the remaining sets. The slide into bottom ponds tripped. I think I had it too shallow, and he ran into it instead of into it because of steep bank. Reset deeper and adjusted guide and dive sticks. The castor mound, well this was operator error. Trap knocked over and still set. What the heck? My bad I had not unlocked the safety latches. So, all reset went home and took out castor glands and both back hind quarters. Day two yesterday the blizzard, high winds and 20 degrees. I knew this was coming and knew I would be pulling traps but also knew the beaver would move well from the front coming in. So, it was miserable to say the least. From wind and warmer water due to 67-degree day air temps of setting I knew no freeze up my hopes were high. Mile round trip That snow and wind cut like a knife. Frozen moustache and icy glasses when I got to pond. Glasses went into pocket and now besides all other things I was blurry eyed. My buddy would say I'm not a bad kid just a dumb one or you have to be tough when you're stupid. I am both of the above. Same trap that caught the first at den I could make something out sticking up out of the slush covered water. I waded into the water and retrieved my catch. Pulled traps around pond and found at bottom of slide another beaver catch. Pulled rest of traps and made the trip back home, Put catch on porch for a picture, Got setting tool, compressed springs and took out catches. Into the warmer shop to get snow off and a few minutes for me and glasses to thaw out. Big one was 42 inches long and 51 pounds. Pretty respectful and my largest to date. Skinned enough to remove castors and one more hind quarter from the big one plus its backstraps. Castors drying. They will go to a friend who catches a bunch of beaver and otter. He will make lure and sell castor. My shop smells like castor and it is really quite pleasant smell. The remaining beaver carcasses will feed other wildlife including the eagles hanging around. Songbirds will appreciate the energy the fat will add to their diet. I make nothing from doing this just for friends and a simple thank you. When we get a thaw will reset here and another place where I was asked to get rid of a few.
  21. Well, you should as I have kinfolk down there!
  22. Yea JD, From the minute I met you I knew I was in the company of good people. Blessed to call you, my friend. Thanks for sharing with us.
  23. Negatory, Wind kept pond thawed. Slush covered from snow.
  24. Ended up taking them off and so now I had a blurry view of the blizzard whil juggling unsnapped 330 conibears. Recipe for disaster but did ok keeping out of them.
