  1. After Grizwilson's intel Mrs. BilletHead and I hit the woods. No good eating morels to be found but did spy some poisonous ones! I now a neighbor that would ask me to pick him all I found. He is dead now and eating these may of put him over the edge at 86 . Have other friends who eat these too but we choose not to. We found ten scattered in a four foot radius. Big Red False Morel. I am not sure why they call it that as to me they look nothing like a morel. https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/big-red-false-morel BilletHead's will have their eyes peeled!
  2. Some of the BilletHead's old stuff, Lots of assorted river runts all plastic. Then a baby zara upper left. An Arbo Gaster and not sure about the double propped white on in the upper right. The wooden ones. I was afraid to get the soap and water after them. They are all hand me downs from Grandpa, BilletHead
  3. I see a midge oreno, river runts, lazy ikes and a lucky thirteen maybe ? Not quite as old as you are Al I am not far behind. Spending the first sixteen years in Southern California I did not get the fishing start some of you did. I have used some of these old lures and can say I probably lost some with the cruddy equipment I did get to start with. I will work up a photo of some assorted old ones, BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Still got the tiny bones but if the fish is big enough those tiny bones are not so tiny. White as snow meat BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Sichuan crispy fried carp today. Since the BilletHeads were out of carp we went to a overstocked pond where the bass were energetic to hit the flies we were casting to them. Kept four for the dish. http://honest-food.net/fish-and-seafood-recipes/sichuan-crispy-fried-carp/ Pretty darned tasty and I recommended it. Out of the marinade ready to be dredged in flour, In the wok it goes, When the fish were done it was on to making the sauce. Ginger, onions, garlic and hot peppers getting all worked up, Remaining sauce stuff brought to a boil and then a couple more minutes to finish, Plated up! Let the chow down commence BilletHead
  8. About time you did this too:) . If I was her I would be hiding your tiny minnow hooks until you straighten up ! BilletHead

  10. I understand perfectly Chief, Remember I am older than you are so this computer stuff is a challenge for me too. Actually everything is a challenge for me . Just ask Mrs. BilletHead BilletHead
  11. I am looking at the last post before mine that FlySmallie did. Your big head makes that fish you are holding look small . I have not go into wine making yet or drinking that much to effect my posting abilities, BilletHead
  12. You know when I first seen the post title I was fully expecting to to a well tanned buff lady. It turned out to be true, well that is if it is a girl . Chief nice fish, like to see your catches but you not so much . BilletHead
  13. Don't know you or your father but do know if you ask it will be heard, BilletHead
  14. So then have any of you loaded an A-rig with pre rap warts? I bet that would me magical . BilletHead
  15. Pretty neat use of them. I heard the pre raps were considered heirloom variety's. You guys planted the old ones and grew your own . The newer hybrid warts had the taste bred out of them and bass preferred the old ones for taste. BilletHead is being a jester
  16. Speaking of Shuttlecocks, Yes Ronnie you should be working some of these up. I know you have an artistic side and that is part of the fun. I am getting as bad as those wiggle wort fanatics . What fish doesn't like red and white? Then the fire tiger, Another color I have not done until this latest batch. I had the pleasure to meet one of the neatest striper fisherman last year. Thanks to Bill Butts for letting me have the pleasure to meet the fellow and his wife. He kept telling me of a color he liked in a jig so I tried to do a couple for him. First one of my tying season I forgot the rattle so I did a second. He kept telling me kelly green and the stripers really liked that color. No idea what the color represents but hey the fish only know. I will get these sent to him for critiquing . Have another all white one to paint and put the head on. Thinking I am liking the red white one so that is the way I am leaning. Got to have a back up one to go with the other. Deadstream I guess I could cal it the Broach Roach , BilletHead
  17. Nice Ronnie, Well I just had to try the thing out . Hit a pond and went to casting. It worked on one anyways, Got short bit a lot also. Kept changing and sizing down to catch. Not sure if the colder nights took a toll or what. Some ponds actually iced back over in places. Ten Bass and two big bluegill. Now to the fly again. When I do another there will be some tweaking. Part of the time it wanted to turn over. So I am thinking put heaver eyes on it back some like a clouser. The big brushed out dubbing loop will cover up the eyes. The rubber legs right behind and in front of the eyes. Actually think about it. A bass will eat almost anything if it strikes his fancy. Guess that is why it is a tournament fish . BilletHead
  18. No truer words have ever been spoken. Do what you want and like it. I am much more happy when I decided to not give a crap about anything when it pertains to sports. My God and Family is a different thing than my hobbies. BilletHead
  19. Got bored yesterday and got to messing with a critter. Not sure what to call it . One of a kind. Tied on a 60 degree bend heavy Gamakatsu size 1 jig hook. Put a big nickle bead on the nose for some weight. Rattle on the butt. Rubber legs on the trimmed bottom of the head so it will lay flat. Flash, buck tail and hackles. Head coated with Fabric paint like a shuttlecock. Sinks slowly and I think you could strip it or crawl it along the bottom like a sculpin or crawdaddy. Got three views here. A dry shot and then a shot in the water from above and then one underwater view, BilletHead Got some shuttlecocks in the works also.
  20. Boy this is getting mean, So we need a laugh. Look what I did to a Midge Oreno back in high school. It was original white. Thought I would be improving it , Good thing is I have a bigger one. Was it the Babe Oreno ? BilletHead
  21. Deadstream we can go as caddies Or maybe hold the side bet money. Keep the score cards because fishermen cheat when weighing so we can keep them honest. BilletHead
  22. I can see it now the OA invitational. Instead of playing for the coveted green jacket you will all be playing for a stinky trout fishing jersey . Oh yea the guys on the Rock will be playing for one that smells like a dead bass eating striper, BilletHead
  23. And look for the cul-de-sac called possum hollow. BilletHead
  24. Ohh Snagged, Does this mean your wife is exotic ? Nice flower. We seen at lowes the other day they have orchids in now. BilletHead
