  6. I really wouldn't want to be smelling the smoke from a lead acid battery melt down either. Guess we should go back to how most of us started. At least I did by sitting on the front seat of a tiny flatbottom boat. By myself with the back end up in the air. Had a small paddle that never came out of the water as I swept it back and forth sculling from tree stump to tree stump dipping for crappie. Much quieter than any trolling motor. Ahh the good old days. Had as much fun as I do now but sure not as confrontable.

nothing wrong with that. Would of went perfect with what @rps has an affection for TOTS!
  8. All those super braids are like this. I still use them in certain places when you might find me using conventional gear. I do like it for backing on fly reels where you can't get enough regular dacron on them. I have been spooled in fast water by big hybrids even with I could not boat moving to follow fast enough. The stuff is great in open water though. You all should be using the heavy braids where you can set the hook hard like the pros and cross that bass's eyes yanking them into the boat!
  9. Good place to go. You might end up in a shootout. Take your cowboy hat.
  10. I ate many of them. Aunt and uncle had a pond full of them. Cousin and I would fire up the Colman lantern and fish in the late evenings. This is where i learned to like the smell of night insects getting killed by the hot lantern. Uncle worked at 3M and they had a fishing contest during the spring and summer family deal for several fish species. We entered one and made fifteen bucks. Had a girlfriend and went to visit her one morning. She was heading to one of their ponds to check lines. She was unhooking all kinds of little bullheads. Went back to the house and she cleaned them. This way she did it was odd to me. She dropped them one by one in a pot of boiling water like scalding a chicken. Just a dunk was all it took to just slip the skin off. then into a cold-water bath until they were all done.
  11. Yes had a nice one handed down to us from Aunt. It's going to be the last though if it goes south which won't the way we treat it. I have enough carbon seasoning built up in my vintage ones I can cook anything now. All you have to do is use the uncoated ones and build up.
  12. A couple pieces found there but it's got nuts. Go to the goodwill auction site and type in cast iron. Everybody knows it's there and bids go high. I think I have three pieces I bought there I really wanted. Just about as bad as eBay.
  13. Look through this list here. Lots of options and price ranges just go USA made if you would. Personally, I would go vintage. They are lighter weight and made very well. There are many ways to get them. If you go with most restorers that specialize in buying and selling, they will most likely go high. I am not that way. If I get it cheap and restore, I pass it on with just a small mark up for my time. I enjoy bringing them back to service. I have done hundreds of pieces. Ate up with it. Dealt with several here on OAF. Also, if you are into it find used vintage and restore yourself. There are bargains still out there as mentioned by @snagged in outlet 3 at resale stores, garage sales, estate sales etc. I have actually found some dirt cheap and gave more than asking price. 20. That lake must be jam packed with them. Every year while chasing the white bass with the fly rod up the tributaries I seem to catch at least one. Talk about fun on the long stick. It's a hoot #remembertotakeabiggernet.

  24. Yes, we have seen it. The lady lives down south of Neosho a ways. Have been to her house when I was looking for a specific deep base for my hearts and star waffle iron. She has cast iron pieces in several places for sale. See her and her husband at many auctions. Check those prices sometime. She is very, very high but does a great job restoring.
