Ozark Hellbender Update from Captive Breeding program
BilletHead replied to Johnsfolly's topic in Conservation Issues
Hi stranger. -
Sorry Rick. 😁
-
Yes this one isn't a fancy deal. Mostly display.
-
My goal will be a roll type for fly tying. This one is a drop-down desk. Good question though from a like mind.

I am thankful also Rick. I did not get to watch the game until 7:45 last night. We went to an auction that started at 1 yesterday afternoon. Actually, had to turn around and go back home because I forgot to set up the DVR. Was hoping no one would blow the ending before I got to watch it. That kind of worked. UNTIL I seen the sports thread and this post during half time as Pat was fast forwarding the recording. 🙃. NO Rick did not give a score or say who won but this post gave me some hope as we watched the game. So, the sale? Over 100 pcs of cast iron. I ended up with three pieces. Had hopes for more. I did bid up on two hard to find gem pans. There was another person who wanted them worse than I did. Have a buddy that dropped well over a grand on iron. He has a way of doubling or tripling his investment. I'm not into that so I spent a Benjamin. Pat bought an antique oak secretary. Now she is getting ready for work walking circles around the house looking for a place to put it. Was a good time and among friends. Sale was inside a community building out of the weather.

All righty then makes sense now. 😆

I take offense at @snagged in outlet 3 remark about the Neanderthal. 23 and me said I have 45% more Neanderthal DNA than other 23 and me participants. The Neanderthal part of me feels violated. Punish him! hahahahhahhahahahahahahah Before anyone else says it, this might explain why I am like I am. 🤪🤪🙃

Yesterday was wild turkey enchiladas for brunch. Polished off two. Then snacks the rest of the day., Today was chipotle meatballs, yum! Tomorrow who knows but hope it involves fried potatoes.

Habitat is everything.

You will never know. goes all the way back to hunter gatherers. Anything was fair game. Anything so as not to starve.

I actually see and hear more as they go back north. I am sure others have heard them too and did not know what it was. They do courtship flights on way to nesting grounds. I will attach a video from you tube. Turn sound up high. I used to watch this happen every year in a yimber road across from my house until it got screwed up. At dusk a woodcock would be on the ground and do a peent, peent, call and turn different directions doing it. then fly up in circles real high with a twittering sound. At it's apex it would tumble back down with a whistling noise. As soon as that happened, he would start again. It is really amazing to witness.

Huh? Not too many days ago you told us this was poison. Told us all to stay away from it.

Well here it is @ness, The traditional family dinner was turkey and noodles per request of our grandson. Mashed taters and sweet potatoes, dressing too. Pat cooked down cranberries and added some cinnamon. Serve warm or chilled. Good stuff. All of this was last Sunday. So today we were on our own. Thoughts about what we wanted were batted back and forth. A couple ideas emerged. Pat off until Monday so cooking will be done. Today was the south zone waterfowl opener and we would be going and go we did. With the decoy spread out and pre dawn Pat said if we kill ducks we will have them, if not there will be wild turkey enchiladas or chipotle meatballs. I'm down for anything. Three ducks were killed. Two mallards and a green wing teal. Ok she says duck. As soon as cleaned the Mallard breasts were seasoned and vacuumed sealed and into Sous vide bath at 130 degrees for an hour and a half. Pulled out and started charcoal while Pat did the sides. Horseradish mashed potatoes and more dressing and leftover cranberry sauce. A quick sear of the breasts over the white charcoal and pear wood. Lots of smoke with lid on. Plated up, Sliced to see a perfect pink juicy tender meat. Yum and thankful for everything. Will see what tomorrow brings.

Let me help you Shuh-taa-kee -
You do know we like to jest with you, and you take all we give in stride. I was told once if they tease you, it's because they like you. If they quit watch out .
-
I'm sorry just couldn't resist and hold back.
-
Exactly. I can hardly believe anything ground nesting or young animal is safe from them. They eat anything they can get including live things and I mean anything.

For sure. I know for a fact there were areas here in Missouri the MDC did arieal gunning on hogs. I truly hope they can get rid of them the way it's being done. I do think more than spreading the Sounder and educating the swine is how fun it is to hunt them. That's how they got started was guys bringing them in and planted the hogs to hunt. Sort of like a fisherman bucket biologist planting invasive fish where they don't need to be. If hunters like it it truly would be hard to stop. I get it.

Well that was why the American bison was once endangered, why whitetail deer about disappeared, why wolf are gone, for crying out loud we had grizzly bear on the edge of where I live. Don't anyone tell me it was habitat loss why these animals are gone. They were eradicated for other reasons.
