    What's Cooking?

Actually not very long to this size. Seed just called baby bok. I tossed the package I think John. Was hoping the bases would get thicker. I will watch and use the ones starting to bolt right away and see if some make better bases. As we picked we were eating the stems and leaves. Very tasty!
  2. Good times man!

Albondigas Al Chipotle' Meatballs from Mexico. This is a BilletHead favorite using two pounds of ground venison. Then a side of smoked sharp cheddar mashed potatoes. For the first time we grew some baby bok Choy. Started picking abd using it today. A simple salad with just the bok choy and dressing. In my case blue cheese and the Mrs. ranch. Lots of leftovers for two people so I see a meatball sandwich or three in the future. Maybe some for breakfast with eggs ?
  5. Finally got some tomatoes in the ground. Planted them really deep as I do every year. So I will be able to cover if another frost raises its ugly head. Just six so far three Black Krim and three celebrity. More later as I work on and off in the garden. Lettuce bed doing pretty well too. I started all the lettuce in cells then transferred outside under covers. At that time I dropped some baby bok choy seeds in rows between the lettuce. That stuff really took off. Problem is it is beginning to bolt. (flower and go to seed). First time doing this planting. Said it is a cool weather plant. I find it hard to believe but we did have a couple really warm weeks between frosts and a freeze last week. So we picked some that was beginning to bolt for a salad with dinner. Did not put anything else in it just a dressing. It was really good and I will do it again next year or possibly this fall. Mrs. BilletHead said this is her week day off face. For doing the job she does and putting up with me I understand .
  6. Oh yucky! I know that smell but only once. If water gets into the collection bag its double GAG! I have dumped and filled a couple gallon zip lock bags then pitched into the freezer. It kills them and then you can just dump them anywhere. I now hang a trap close to the water over the Koi garden pond with the bottom open. They go in and cannot get air born between the bag and water. Instant koi and green sunfish feed. I need another little channel cat in there. They like them too! When they were at their worst I would spray the crape myrtle or wisteria. They would drop to the ground dead. Armadillos would come and scarf them up overnight. I hope it worked on them too! Loke I said last two years they have been better. It was so bad I pulled my black berries. Those crooks got more berries than I did.

    Good job buddy!
  8. I like me some armadillo damage control. I may pay you to let me take care of them. Think is they are not a game animal. Only kill for damage control. I was told to do what I have to do but to dispose of them discreetly. You should see what the .25 cal PCP air rifle will do to them. The best deal was a few years back while Pat and I were getting ready to go teal hunting. I seen a pair under our apple tree. I had a machete handy I crept over and got one on first swing. The other got confused and started running in circles. It took two swings and that was that! We had less Japanese beetles last year and not so much yard damage now. Not many grubs to dig for I suppose.
  9. Like raccoons and sweet corn. They just know!
  10. That's why I skin my turnups. Maybe that's why they grow so well. Fertilizer!
  11. Ain't nothing better than picking a turnup out of your food plot before getting on stand. Sitting there peeling it and slicing off some to eat while watching the deer eat the tops. Used to put turnip seed in my plot out the back window. Fun watching the yarded up deer coming in the late winter trying to get them out of the ground to eat them.
  12. I can help you with your squirrel problem . lethal and quiet. Would even take them home with me so you wouldn't have to mess with them.

    What's Cooking?

Chili revisited, Back in December member @Gavin shared a chili recipe with all of us. It was a big batch and good. When I get these large batches of things I vac seal leftovers in individual servings for a quick meal. I freeze in a container and when it is frozen pop it out and vac seal. Lasts a long time with out freezer burn. So I was looking in the freezer for something for my lunch. Rainy and 58 outside I spotted the chili and grabbed a package, Thawed and heated up. Took a potato/vegetable peeler and did some thin slices of sharp cheddar smoked cheese to top it off. Tasted just like I remembered and downed it with a couple glasses of milk, Thanks again Gavin!
  14. I would say it is not a fly by night lawyer and it is the state doing this. IMO it will not amount to anything but we will see.

    Cast iron

When I say careful I'm thinking don't do like you are making popcorn or slide it back and forth to see if your eggs will slide around. .

    Cast iron

No problem. Do not use a skillet with a heat ring. Make sure the skillet sets flat. Other than that is potential scratches if you are not careful.

    Cast iron

Good Guess ! That skillet was produced in that same time period as the Dick and Jane series of books. Thank you Ness for participating in the Cast iron discussion:) .
