    Jelly

We never have just staying with gooseberry, blackberries and raspberries. Just don't see many elderberries around here like we used to. On year mom made some elderberry jelly but it did not set and we had elderberry syrup and boy howdy like you said it was amazing on pancakes and waffles! Do have a couple gallons of gooseberries in the freezer waiting for the making of jam soon! BilletHead
  2. Our office in small town we use sends out the prescriptions to be done. Not sure if all is done in the same place. I will do further investigation when I get eyes checked next go around. If our eyes do not change we usually opt for clear lenses and then shades every couple of years., BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Well what did we all cook for Labor Day? Ok here in BilletHeadVille we celebrated the fruits of our labor. Hunter, gatherer gardener and cooks. The gatherer part came yesterday when Mrs. BilletHead seen these growing as we drove down the road, Oysters what a blessing! So these were coated with some olive oil S&P and tossed on the gas grill. While she was taking care of that I was taking care of the hunter part of a fat mallard on the charcoal and peach wood grill, The meal really came together wen we added gardener part. I thought we were out of the tomatoes from the garden but she had some stashed back so a caprice salad was made too. The only thing we did not supply from those fruits of our labor was the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, mozzarella, and S&P. i guess that may not actually be true as we earned the bucks to purchase that also . Happy Labor Day everyone and it takes all of us to make the world go around, The BilletHead's
  7. Mike if you were ever close to BilletHeadVille I would gift you a jar of the precious stuff. You would never look at the Canada goose the same , If you ever so to SW Mo. Let me know, BilletHead
  8. If you get a chance Ham do the taste test with a clean shot dove breast side to a medium rare. I have also cooked one half of a wild turkey breast in gravy to a controlled temp. The wild turkey was a blush or pink inside the center of it. I would say that was the best wild turkey dish I have ever had. Tender too, BilletHead
  9. There you go just figure out what works for you Travis. You are asking all the right questions and are learning fast in your fly fishing quest. Also to your other part of the question. i usually just tie to bend of hook from my dry but one year I tied a mono loop on my hoppers. I did this by tying the mono on both sides of the hook and then my hopper body on top of that. Worked real well plus my hopper did not slip around the hook. I should do that again, BiletHead
  10. I also need prescription, trifocals even. I have had two pair of prescription sunglasses. For some reason they both have messed with my depth perception and another thing it magnifies. The depth thing is it makes my casts look further and when looking to step off a bank into the water it looks along ways down. I remove them and see it is a short step but with them off that step is blurry. Seems I cannot win. With my clear normal glasses even with the trifocals all is normal looking, BilletHead
  11. Et tu, Quillback? Biggest mistake is over cooking game or any meat for that fact. We as consumers have to cook mass butchered meat because of the way it is treated. Wild game if not all shot up can be eaten on the rare side. If we have one shot up it is treated different than one that is not. I have cooked dove which is mainly a seed eater, woodcock and snipe worm and bug eaters. All three of these the breast sides filled off and just slightly browned with pink to red centers. The bites were not tough or "Liver tasting". I am throwing a question out there to you make it edible guys. Do you cook your good cuts of steaks like a ribeye well done to the max? If you don't but have done accidentally how does that taste compared to medium rare? BilletHead
  12. Travis, You will find an opinion from each person on here. Like Ness said read reports on Taney. I know you keep up on them but may have to dig back through the posts because there is not much posted about dries on there. So here is my opinion. If I am fishing dries and not getting bit I am going to add a dropper. In Taney it is going to be a midge such as a harvester or anything along that line, then a small scud if wading and if drifting in a boat in high water a big scud, san Juan worm , bright egg or Y2K. I know you addressed Taney but out West it will be a big dry or hopper on general streams and again if not getting bit it will be a general searching nymph and adjust from there. Tail waters out West will fish similar to Taney colder outflows and more specialty dries and droppers depending on the season, BilletHead

  14. http://www.moldychum.com/store-caught-sticking-googly-eyes-on-fish-to-make-them-look-fresh/ I thought of a couple of you guys this morning. @fishinwrench and @Flysmallie . BilletHead
  15. I feel Deadstream you may be doing something wrong in the cooking process. If this is the case you probably don't like duck, goose, venison, squirrel, rabbit and other assorted wild game. Quick overcooking is the biggest mistake on wild game. If you cook it quick the meat needs to be medium rare. Try this sometime and let us know what you think, BilletHead

  19. You are not Kidding John. I think we are up to 10 in each of their respective ranges. Could you give a buddy a loan? I even looked up the native fish hats on rep your water. Won't be doing that either :), Again nice reproduction Net Boy, BilletHead
  20. Yep nice replica. Would be neat to have one of the fish we have caught across the West. Do they ask for a length and girth besides the photo? BilletHead
  21. Well did anyone else get out day two?', We did and the rest of the cornfield had been combined from yesterdays 20 acres to maybe 80 so birds spread out. We got a dozen and unlike yesterday Mrs. BilletHead shot much better than I did. We got a dozen and she did as part of her bag two doubles. Her shot to kill ratio was better than mine today also. Many, many resident geese up and down from pond to pond. The best thing about this morning was the teal we got to see. Two wads one of 100 or more and then a group of thirty. We did not see any yesterday but boys they are here and I hope all of us that chase them have luck soon, BilletHead
  22. Well after that remark on positive ID I got one for @Johnsfolly . Do you reckon the guide would of done a better job toting a fly rod? hahhha, BilletHead
  23. Heck yes you have to know your poles but a minnow is a minnow, BilletHead
  24. Power poles is what brings electricity to your house with wires and I used to climb them. Those things on the back of boats is a stick in the mud, BilletHead
  25. I had been getting updated from the Folly guy about your trip , BilletHead
