Wow! This is going to turn out bad. Bet it doesn't make one season.

I bought an Old Town Predator 13 a few years ago and love it. Being a big heavy 85 lb beast, I knew I wasn't hoisting it on top of my 4Runner so I bought an ultra light trailer for it. Only took me 6 hrs to bolt that thing together.....never again. But they kayak is great. Tons of storage space, enough for overnight camping and very stable. The fly casting sitting down is a little more work but that thing is built to stand in. Very wide and stable with a built in strap to pull yourself up and the seat kicks back out of the way to open up the deck a little for your fly line to pile up. They are definitely compact and require you to manage your space well so I don't really compare them to boat fishing, but they can be really nice.

Well for starters, if the bank requires insurance, as most do, then insurance is a cost you must incur to get a loan. Insurance is all about offsetting risk. If you can pay cash for a $35k boat, and are willing to risk thousands of dollars in repairs for what would have been a covered loss, more power to you and that's your choice. In addition to that is the liability exposure in case you injur someone. I'm not comfortable accepting that kind of risk, but that's just me. To me, $150 a year is a pretty good value to transfer that risk to someone else. I also know if I insure my boat with that company for $35k and I total it, they will pay me $35k. Having $35k in property coverage, $100k liability and towing coverage for $150 a year makes that sound like a very valuable piece of paper to me. But again, that's just me. A lot of people dislike insurance in general and I get that, I'm not a big fan myself, but I'm not willing to take the risk of not having it. And if you think your auto or homeowners insurance extends to your boat, please read your policies very closely. Those policies generally provide very little, if any coverage for watercraft. Some do, but most have very specific exclusions and/or limits for watercraft of all kind.

I did tell him. He replied with a bunch of garbage about not knowing the rules. Yeah right. Then he said he was deleting the video.

Wow. That is a moving story. Especially timely for me. I posted two stories a couple years ago about fishing with my Dad who was 89 at the time. He's now 94 and still able to make it out with me a few times a year. We mainly hit Rainbow Trout Ranch down by Ava which is basically a little private trout park, deep in the beautiful Ozarks, with large stocked fish, beautiful scenery and an awesome dining lodge. The last 4 years, we've made it down there at least three times a year. Being a smaller stream, he's able to walk around in waders with my help and we have a blast. Last week down there though, he did take a spill. The up side is that it was in the hotel room, not the stream. No major injury, just a skinned up elbow, but it's really got me thinking about how much longer he will be able to make it. We're booked again for the weekend before Thanksgiving and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I consider myself very fortunate. Dad was able to work (by choice) until he was 90 and is still in great health.

You guys are going to turn me into a traditional tackle fisherman with this stuff! Not a fly rod snob, but that's really all I enjoy......which I guess does make me a fly rod snob On the plus side though, I did catch my first bass on a crawdad fly pattern this weekend. I worked up Duane Hada's Creek Crawler, to the best of my ability, and it worked like a champ.

Since I fly fish, I'd have just put on my heaviest lead-eyed jig-n-pig fly and started landing it upside a few of their heads. That would have cleared some space in a hurry.

God how I hate inbred, corn fed, brain dead, littering, poaching, redneck scumbags! This kind of stuff makes my blood boil........but only for a few minutes.

Once again, it drives me nuts when one person, who sees things one particular way, implies that is the best way for everyone else to see things. I happen to KNOW exactly what 1.5 ft, or 3 ft, looks like on the specific gauges and locations on the few primary rivers I fish. I know this from experience watching these specific gauges and fishing these spots regularly. I have no idea what 4500 cfs at these spots because I never look at that reading, it's meaningless to me. OBVIOUSLY, 3ft on one particular location, on one particular river, has no relation to 3ft on a different river, different location, don't need a PHD in hydrology to know that. If a person is looking at a river they've never been to before and have no experience with, the CFS, along with the median flow and depth may provide the needed information. And that little orange triangle clearly labeled Median Daily Statistic is showing us the median daily statistic? Wow, I'm flabbergasted. Median being commonly defined as "denoting or relating to a value or quantity lying at the midpoint of a frequency distribution of observed values or quantities, such that there is an equal probability of falling above or below it. Based on the individual viewers preferred personal viewpoint, and the date ranges you choose, there is an amazing amount of info available in those gauge readings.

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are, and stated so much more politely than I could have.

Can you share something about that articulated worm? I just started fly fishing for bass and am loving it. I googled it and am finding things like that Senko worm, is that it? If you feel like sharing, I'd be grateful.

Congratulations on your new business venture. That's good looking stuff. But 4 posts of the same thing? If I had started a business, for which I owed so much to OAF, maybe I'd consider taking out a paid ad to support Phil for all his work. Just a thought.

Sweet. I just took up kayak fly fishing and love it. Really enjoy your choice of music also. So many fly guys are using horrendous electronic dubstep that makes me want to vomit.
