I have a good retrieving a cripple story. We were hunting Truman up the grand arm one season about 20 years ago. My brother crippled a drake mallard and got out of the boat blind to go find it. He couldn't find it, but on his way back, we saw him squat down. When we looked up in the sky, there were probably 200 mallards funneling in to us, we couldn't see them because they came in from behind. My brother was watching this unfold from about 75 yards away. He said one drake was very smart and stayed back.....about 40 yards away from the others. But what the drake didn't know was that my brother was right next to him. My brother shot him and got his first banded duck. The duck was 10 years old according to the records, and was banded in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. He still wears the band on his call lanyard to this day.
