Something I require anymore when running a stream, is to have my fishing partner looking forward at all times. Its easy to get lulled into gawking at an eagle soaring, and not watching where you are going. I have nightmares of running upstream into a broken off log facing downstrean and taking somebodys head off. Skinny rivers require a responsible driver for sure.

White and chartreuse bait colors, or a combination of the two seem to work best in the tannic water up north. I would go with a reaction type bait and seek out any stray logs on the river, they should be holding a good fish. If you throw a crankbait, use one that you're guaranteed to bang as many rocks as possible. That might mean fishing a deeper diving crankbait than you would usually fish for a certain water depth. Those fish are beasts. I'd be reluctant to throw 8 pound test, IMHO it's a tad too light. MoSmallies buzzbait would also be a good choice. Bring the mosquito repellant!

I agree with everything being said, but it's too late The kids nowadays have no patience and they're being impelled to be that way. My daughters preschool has virtually every minute planned out, and when there's nothing to do she kind of looks around with this helpless look. Instant gratification everywhere including the news we get every day.
