There was another "eco-nut" on here who wanted to see large, predatory cats return. Hope (but doubt) this is his/her backyard. If it were, the NIMBY complex would be in full swing. Betchya' ! Stoneroller
LOL "Eco Nut" here's an idea, when you have ZERO intelligent comments to add to the story, or just have zero knowledge and even less tact, just start calling people names and labling them into your convenient little catagories. Look, if you can't add anything to the debate, without instantly going to insults and name calling like some 5 year old, do us all a favor and keep your fat mouth SHUT! Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Smalliebigs
Wow!!!! dude, Skeeter is a good friend of mine and he has a very realistic head on his shoulders. If the term Eco-nut offends you that much, mabey it hit to close to home???Knowing you, Stone your are not an Eco-nut but wow, no need to get so offended.Skeeter has had some first had experience with Cougars of which nightmares are made of.Cougars are a dangerous animals and should not be in an area with the population density of Chesterfield, it will only be a matter of time before a child or a dog is eaten. My nephew plays select baseball @ the Chesterfield fields off of HWY 40 and I am a coach.Last fall one of the moms were walking on the trail there that runs down the levee. She came back horrified that she had seen a Puma. We all disregarded her claim as though she was on too many psych meds, which is all to common in that area. Now I feel bad!!! There are so many deer where that cat is, it's got plenty of food thats for sure.
eric1978
Well, in the opinion of this eco-nut, Chesterfield may not be the greatest place to have a population of mountain lions, and I won't deny that if one was spotted this side of the Boone Bridge and my yard backed up to a densely wooded area, I'd probably develop the slightest nervous tick letting my daughter play alone back there. But realistically, you'd still have a better chance of being struck by lightning than losing your child to a ferocious feline. And let's face it, living in rural, urban or suburban areas all have their advantages and disadvantages and inherent dangers. If I feel like a 6-pack, I can hit QT and be back home in the time it takes to listen to an early Beatles' song. But I also have a much better chance of being t-boned by a drunk driver or mugged for my beer money while I'm out. Plus it takes me two hours to get to a decent river and I have to deal with masses of stupid people on a daily basis. They're everywhere! If you live out in the sticks, co-existing with wildlife is just part of the deal. You have to draw the line somewhere...if mountain lions aren't allowed in the city or the suburbs or sparsely populated rural areas, where are they allowed? Should we put up fences around the National Parks? Should we just eliminate every species of animal that poses any risk to the almighty human? What good would the country be if it was just like the city?
Stoneroller
My apologies. I just don't want to see a hot topic like this reduced to name calling and labeling. Lets stick to the issue and not worry about making sure we have everyone placed into a convenient preconceived catagory. None of us are that one deminsional that we could be labeled in such a way. sportsmen are an odd bunch to say the least. some do lean more toward the 'eco nut' area, some lean more towards the 'carpet bomb the forests then my food will already be tenderized and cooked for me' area. But I suspect the vast majority fall somewhere between. either way Conservation should be at the top of everyone's list. How long ago was it that someone thought DDT was a great idea? Snow geese, wild turkeys, Bald eagles, all almost disappeared completely. Thankfully some econuts stepped up and educated the powers that be on the truth. Now look, we have seasons for turkey and snow geese. bald eagles are easy to find. We can learn and not everything we've done in the past, including policies and procedures have been well thought out. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. ColdWaterFshr
This kitty is going to get fat in a hurry in Chesterfield. Deer are as plentiful as soccer-moms on psych meds. If it could just make it over another mile east to Town and Country -- that would be a great story. That town has been in a huff for years about what to do with their huge deer population. Half the citizens think it is good money to spend $10,000 per deer to get the females "fixed", while the other half thinks it is inhumane to relocate or kill them and thinks they are cute. Imagine this putty-tat wandering in and taking down some deer on their perfectly manicured lawns.
