No wonder the cicadas are fading out, SIO3 is shooting them all with a pellet gun.

When I was just a piker I must have shot hundreds with my old Benjamin pellet gun. I was sitting out back the other night and whacked a dozen or so. Ran out of rabbits. I told you guys everyone needs a little sport in life.

The golf course pond had em buzzing all over the surface and not a one was taken by a fish.

I need to go fishing....

I haven't seen a single one in Northwest Arkansas. The guys at Southtown tell me they're pretty thick out by Elkins, but I haven't seen or heard any around Fayetteville.

Cicada's seem to be spotty this year...we dont have many in the Webster Groves/Brentwood area of St. Louis...drive a couple miles west and they are thick.

They are THICK out here, Gavin. My back fence is covered with thousands of their shell casings. Couple days ago, the kids were out back helping me doing some yardwork, and I shook our small apple tree and a huge swarm fell from the branches and the wife and kids went running and screaming away.

The noise is quite loud in mid-afternoon. You have to shout over them to be heard, and even inside in my basement you can easily hear their pulsing wail.

Fishinwrench - I think you're right on the Sneaky Pete. I might just tie up a few of those with some swiss straw for wings. Marking up the wings with an orange marker and a fine point black sharpie for variegation. Lots of orange in the cicadas around here.

A couple suggestions in the Sneaky Pete Style....

Been tying up some others...black foam pipe insulation bodies...brown flexi floss or black & orange rubber for legs, tan, black, and orange krystal flash wings, and some white foam on top for an indy...Will see what works this weekend...did learn something though...Flexi floss does funny things when you hit it with superglue. NOT a good match.

They are everywhere by us, behind Powder Valley Conservation area in Kirkwood. They keep coming in our Chimmney somehow. I was tying some 2 pound line around their heads and throwing them in the creek and letting the Green Sunfish feed it was great fun it took me back to my youth.

I have been having good luck with them in the creeks by my house. i had a monster green sunfish completely attack the crap out of my fly. i used some wrapped foam to make a segmented body and some ideas i had gotten from some hopper poppers. I'll have to post a picture of it.
