The Olathe Bass Pro just started carrying them and I got my hands on one yesterday. $7.99 and I can't tell a difference between the two. I took a picture of the Luck E Strike and a real Megabass to show how similar they are.

Looks can be deceiving...how it works in the water is all that matters....For $7.99 a pop..I'd bite....hooks & finish look better than a standard rapala.

Agree 100%, but a lot can be done with the addition of a little lead. I'll need to try a couple.

The tackle industry is a very copy cat business, but for some reason Luck e Strike strikes a nerve with me...Been a while since they had an original idea..Oh well..Very irritating that they copied the Scrounger head and then TM'ed the Scrounger name so Aaron Martens/Davis baits can't even use the name....not that he was the inventor of the bait anyway...just bugs me.

Well said. I was thinking the same thing. All there stuff looks like someone elses.

I picked up a couple of these today at our BPS. I will say, they look pretty darn nice for the price. But, how they perform will be the real test. I will say, one concern I have are the tiny, thin wire split rings on the hooks. They REALLY seem like a weak link. I understand with the 3 trebles, typically more than 1 hook will get caught on the fish, but from the looks of these flimsy split rings......lets hope so. :huh1:

I can tell you from first hand experience that the Megabass hooks don't stand up to the rigors of fishing very well.

A single good walleye will do bad, bad things to them.

If the wimpy split rings bum you out, swap em out.

I'm well ahead of you ham, just haven't gotten around to it. But, I've not had good luck with keeping suspending baits....suspending, after swapping out hooks/split rings. Seems the fraction of an ounce difference is enough to send them sinking......but......only one way to find out.

On a side note too.....the trebles appear to be a lighter wire, but seem better quality than most stock hooks. But, you're right, toothy critters or even fatter fish will destroy most hooks. White bass fishing throughout the summer keeps me busy swapping out trebles on my cranks! :secret-laugh:

Can't remember exactly when. Bill Babler gave a jerk bait symposium and praised the Daiichi Death Trap hooks. I put them on the top waters I customized last winter. Outstanding light wire hook with a nasty tendency to stick anything fleshy. Better yet, they do not bend out under stress easily. Last summers big fish was a LM over 23 inches and I did not need to bend the hooks back into place.

Motoman, I'll bet your right on about swapping out the split rings changing the suspension of the bait. I would not worry about the rings and just go try them out to give us a report on that new bait.

rps-good point about the daiichi death traps; those are some seriously sticky hooks I had forgotten about.

Gone Fishing-also a good point, I'm just going to fish them and see how it goes. Those split rings will probably be fine. I just have this worst case scenario rattling around in my head; like I hook into some monster bass, and the split rings open up. I just need to quit worrying and get out and throw 'em first.
