Liveries are like jet boats, you want them outlawed until you have one. :have-a-nice-day:

Yeah, and what I meant to say was "outlaw liveries except for Sunburst, because Justin won't service any idiots henceforth." Deal?

The bottom line is: nothing ruins a good place like a bunch of people.

I guess that axiom begs for an answer to, how many people are too many? How many jet boats are too many? On some very special water I get all upset if I see I single person in a day. On other waters I can put up with one jet boat an hour or one group of noisy floaters an hour, any more than that I question why did come to this godforsaken place. Being limited to nothing but weekends on the water the quest for peace and quiet is a challenge.

I love it!!!!! I will be buying a jet if I can move something out of my garage first. I have already cut an area in the woods next to me, where the canoe trailer will sit after the jet purchase. I promise I won't run any of you guys down and will be quite friendly......I just need a jet and I will continue to float and wade like I always have, I will just have a vehicle to get where the true trophies are on the river. Sorry I like jets and they're legal.

After much thought, buy a 4 stroke engine for your jet, unless you get a killer deal

Today I was going to work in the studio, but just couldn't stand it and decided to go fishing for a while. Took the solo canoe and put in on Big River at the Washington State Park access at Hwy. 21. Noticed that there was enough water that I could probably have run the jetboat for a quite a way up the river. But this is one of those sections that I refuse to run even when there is enough water, because the river is just too small, too narrow...too intimate. A jetboat just doesn't fit. Not that I haven't encountered a few, but when I do I REALLY hate seeing them. I paddled and fished my way up the river, only having to get out and drag the canoe up a couple of fast riffles, all the way to the site of the old Vineland bridge, about three miles up the river. Fishing was slow, but the river was quiet. One canoe with two guys seriously fishing came down the river and we talked for a bit. Other than that, I was alone. It would have been easier to get up the river in the jetboat, but I felt like a little exercise was a small price to pay for peace and quiet, and I suspect those two other guys would have been a lot less friendly if I'd come past them in the boat.

There are still places and times when you can get away from the crowds and the noise. I know that if I go to a river that isn't served by canoe rentals, I have a very good chance of being alone, at least during the middle of the week. In fact, if I DO encounter more than one or two other people, I sometimes let it get me upset. They ain't supposed to be there!

Other times and places, fishing requires a tolerance for people, and a fair percentage of people are always going to be obnoxious. You can't very well expect to fish the blue ribbon section of Current River and be alone. You can't float a section of river served by canoe rentals on a warm weekend and expect solitude. And you can't go on the middle Meramec or the middle and lower Current and expect peace and quiet.

But I often feel like I'm being squeezed. There are a lot of river sections where once I could have gotten away from the crowds, but now I know I can't. I could have floated for a day without expecting to encounter another angler, but now the chances are that two or three jetboats will be fishing it.

There is no denying that a jetboat is a convenience. It allows one to fish a lot of water without having to depend upon somebody to shuttle you for a float, or having to paddle hard up the river. But I would rather have to do the paddling, pay the shuttler, or even knock on doors trying find somebody to shuttle me during the warm weather months. The only times from May through September that I get out the jetboat is when I want to take my dad fishing, because he can't sit in a canoe. And the fact is that on all the rivers that have a lot of jetboat use, the fishing is simply tougher these days than it is on the smaller streams during those months.

I bought my jet pump for fishing the 11pt during the cold months that I cant float. When it is warm enough to canoe the jet boat collects dust.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Yeah SB, definately get a 4-stroke, preferrably a Suzuki if at all possible. :)

If you will just pass over a river or two that are closest to the cities you will easily find a quiet stretch of river to fish, like Wise said the other day, it was 80 degress the fishing was outstanding and he saw 2 kayaks all day ON A SATURDAY. I have fished and floated quite a bit this "off season" and I only pick the nicest days. I could count the number of people I have seen on one hand. I don't know about most rivers but on NFoW and Bryant Creek I can find you a quiet float and fish, and even tell you about floats where you can have a quiet 4-5 hours even on a Saturday in the summer. Most of the worst idiots won't travel far to get drunk so just put an extra hour or two in the car and find some more peaceful water, it will be worth it in the end! And no jet boats to speak of on these rivers (not that there's anything wrong with them).
