Smalliebigs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I exercise my 2nd amendment RIGHTS 24/7 365. gen 4 glock 19 with Hornady critical duty 135gr flexlock or Federal 124gr hydra-shok jhp's. If I get attacked and killed by a species other than H. sapiens, I'll take my whipping as it comes, tooth and nail. Otherwise, everyone is suspect. Just the way it has to be these days. Really hope I never have to use it though. I like to think everyone out enjoying nature is doing so with the same respect for it and others as I am, but I realize there are times where that's not always the instance. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. My medical kit falls in the same catagory. Yes!!!!!!! I love it Mike!!!!! Sig Sauer 1911 Scorpion ACP...love how it shoots and feels in my hand
ColdWaterFshr Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Blazerman - do you mind sharing with us the river you were on in Franklin county and a general idea of the location of this beach? How far down or upstream from such and such boatramp. That kind of thing. Just so I can remember to bring a roll of 20's in a rubberband and play the part as a "buyer". Don't wanna have to pee my leg or find myself with new holes in my body should I find myself in some Clint Eastwood movie sitcheation. Or worse, like poor ole Ned in Deliverance.
fishinSWMO Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Nope, haven't felt the need to play cops and robbers( good guys, bad guys) since I was 9. Jeremy Dodson
Jack Jones Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I'm with ColdWater on this one. I don't carry. I've never fired a rifle, shotgun, or pistol. I've just never felt the need to. Easiest way to avoid most danger is to stay out of dangerous places, and in all cases be alert to your surroundings. I've traveled in some of the worst cities in America, in some of the worst neighborhoods, and I just never felt the need to carry. Truth be told, in many cases, I tend to trust the "criminals" who are carrying more than I trust the "2nd amendment" guys that are carrying. Not all, so don't go thinking I'm casting aspersions on anyone here. It's just been my experience that the folks I've known who purchased guns for other than hunting, and felt the need to carry them regularly, tended to be real law/order cop wannabe types that seemed more likely to feel empowered by their weapon and choose aggression before defusion in suspect circumstances. So no.....I don't carry a firearm. Now bladed objects.....that's a whole different story. ness Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 If I'm not in the mood for a little hand-to-hand, I'll just use the cyanide dart umbrella I picked it up at a KGB flea market back in the 80's. John
rfd515 Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 My intent is protection from wild animals (hogs, bears, mountain lions, moose etc). Obviously the other option is bear spray, but in reading polls on other forums and posts, a lot of people bring up the fact of trusting in the canister working, accidentally spraying yourself, as well as having to worry about wind.
Stoneroller Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 when bear spray first came out as "Bear Repellent" some rocket scientist bought some for the family cause they were going out west or to alaska, can't remember I want to say it was alaska. They get outside bust out the repellent and hose down the kids with it. what? it's bear repellent. it's just like mosquito repellent right? spray it on, keeps the bears away? pretty sure those people are going to end up in the worst nursing home their kids can find. BilletHead Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Ness, what do you feel like you are most like? 007, Man from Uncle or Get Smart? Man I forgot the Pink Panther? Charlies Angles? Man I am getting old BilletHead Yes I carry and so does Mrs. BilletHead As far as for bears you are better off with pepper spray in the big cans for Grizzly defense. I don't care who you are if your suprised I want that can that makes a big pattern and hope the wind is in my favor. I hear it works for a mad cow moose that has young too. Mitch f Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I don't carry but I don't fear the CC guys more than the meth heads like Jack Jones does "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Gavin Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I'm not worried about folks who choose to carry a weapon. That is their business, not mine. I dont care either way...Carry or dont. Its up to you. No right or wrong about it.
