I use a hammer and spike a nail thru the head onto a post. Skin them on that post too while they hang there.

Never thought about it, they are here for us to eat and what im thnking about is how im going to cook it. I normally put mine in a live well and keep them kicking till I get home then just pull them out and clean them, throw a couple right in the pan put some in a soaking bowl for the next night and the rest get froze for later. When I use to surf fish alot and would catch a flounder or halibut depending on the coast I was well known for throwing it right from the surf onto a grill as soon as i gutted it. Its food not the family dog.

Most of us are too far removed from the meat we eat these days. In order for us to eat meat something must die. Some people look at me like I'm a monster when I say I butcher my own sheep, but it is much easier on them when I shoot them in the head while they are eating grain, instead of hauling them in to be slaughtered. I don't enjoy doing it, and prefer not to have an audience when I do, but it is what has to be done with livestock.

A souvenier bat is a good way to put a fish down before you clean it, although I know a guy who just punches it in the face (see Hank Patterson).

Hanks Patterson's methods are truly inspiring. The next time I'm confronted with an angling dilemma I'll ask myself, what would Hank do? WWHD

Had to laugh at this one.

I feel like Hank might have broke his fist punching this guy, but don't tell him I said that.

Though i haven't shot one yet, from all the videos and everything I've seen I feel I would have a much easier time shooting a deer, than swinging catfish against a hard surface. I guess I will find out if I come across any deer this November.

Much less personal when you shoot something from 50 yards away for sure. I think your method with the fish was the problem, not neccesarily the killing. When you make a less than clean kill it should motivate you to improve your skill so that the next time the animal can be dispatched in a humane manner. Less stress on the animal = less stress on you.

True that. Yeah, next time, whenever that may be, I won't be swinging it head first into the steps to dispatch it for sure.

I second what Justin just said. I feel that if you do not have any bad feelings about taking a life, even for your well being, you are a cold person. It does get easier Harris, there are better ways to "harvest" your fish. But that being said, catfish are tough and they will do all they can to survive. I respect them for that.
