cnr Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I've thrown numerous suckers way, way,way up on the banks of Taneycomo to feed the minks and foxes... Its always something I know I should do.. because they are not these kinds of fish : I never understood the killing of Suckers in our trout rivers and streams. I kind of figure the Suckers are the native species and the Trout are the "invasive" species. Don't get me wrong here, I am a Trout fisherman first and foremost. I just don't see any problem with the Suckers, they're just doing their thing in a place they have always been. Now those darn spotted bass are another thing!!!
Jason R. Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 When I keep fish, which is rare (mostly because I do not feel like cleaning them), I go with the stick or rock to the head. Catfish are the Bruce Willis of the river. Yippeekyay blankity blanker. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 cnr - ok.. you have a point. not one I recognize though. the suckers compete with the trout in taney for food... therefore.. I kill every one I can to prevent that. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

exiledguide Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Brian, I didn't know suckers ate Purina trout chow. If it wasn't for suckers in the Finley would there ever be Sucker Grabbin days and the duck race?
Greasy B Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I once had a neighbor who would shoot every squirrel he seen in the huge oak trees in his.back yard. Every year more squirrels. You have to get rid of the trees to get rid the squirrels. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Gavin Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Suckers are yummy and Taney is full of big ones.Your missing out on some good eats.
Flysmallie Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 the suckers compete with the trout in taney for food... therefore.. I kill every one I can to prevent that. The trout are put there to be food for us and you destroy a life that can't compete? You have some screwed up logic. Seek therapy.

Could throw trout on the bank I suppose, there is an unending supply. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
