Fish Attractant? Who Uses It?

Hey fellas,

Just wanted to get some opinions on fish attracts and if you believe in them or they are just another gimmick to get your $. I have never used any kind of attractant (spray, stick, oil, lube, etc) so I really have no idea. Was thinking of trying the megastrike stuff as it seemed easy enough and somewhat clean/non messy. Probably would not put them on moving baits as those are more a reaction type of strike. Would be using it on jigs/soft plastics where you need them to hold onto it and they get a better look/smell of it. Thoughts and opinions?

Well I'll be interested to hear if it makes a difference for you. As for myself, I just haven't seen much of a difference the few times I've applied scent, at least for bass fishing. I'm thinking maybe they'd hold on longer to a scented jig, but it seems that fishing plastics, they usually grab them pretty good if they are biting on them. I'm usually more worried about the fish swallowing plastics so typically I'll set the hook fairly quickly, I might miss a few fish, but I'd rather miss a few then bring in a bleeder.

I use them sometimes and sometimes I don't. I make my own when I do use them.

here is my 2 cents worth. I fished a dozen years off and on with one of best bass fishermen on LOZ. He had his chompers twin tail trailers especially made with no garlic. You can't really argue with success.

i agree with all above. if you think it helps go for it. i have done both, used and not used. im not certain it makes any difference. maybe hold the bait a little longer. its kind of like your favorite bait if you believe it helps it helps confidence more than anything.i now make my own scent...works as well as anything you buy. use it sometimes sometimes i dont.

I've been using fishsticks in the shad and crayfish scents from Bass Pro and WalMart. I can tell a difference when I fish with someone who doesn't use it. It rubs on just like chapstick and it almost last the whole year. I use it on my cranks, plastics,jigs and spoons.

The only thing I notice when using it is I seem to get more bluegills nipping at, and sometimes tearing off the tails on my plastic jig trailers.

They especially are bad after dark!

I use Chompers spray most of the time, but I think with Table Rock being so clear for the most part, bass relate more to sight and sound. That being said, I kind of believe in the idea of appealing to all the senses to get them going.
