In the end there isn't much a fellow can do.

I had a similar experience at the TR dam about 3 years ago and it was easy for me, I haven't been back. I was near the bottom of the last steps working some fish that were taking midges on top. There were several people out in the flat chasing the resident bow's that are always there. I had about 20 feet of line out and was fishing within a few feet of the banks and parallel, but not blocking any path, when 2 fellows came towards the bank to leave. They saw my line and hesitated and then walked over my line without even a glance at me as they walked pass me to the steps. They could have reached the steps in the same amount of walking by turning before they got to my line.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Well Wayne that has got to be one the best stories I have ever heard. Like I said ealier, it is almost impossible to fix stupid. I know you can remember when fishermen would leave the creek to walk around your backcast. Them days are long gone.

We have had it pretty lucky around here. Most of our streams are really not crowded with fishermen to develop the need for combat fishing. Outside of trout parks and tailwaters, most of the time you can get out and away from the crowds.

Up north where the streams are small and fishing seasons have an opening day and a limited run, I think combat fishing is pretty prevalent. Instead of a relaxing sport, it becomes a competition. Competition breeds agression, agression cuts off the supply of smarts to the brain, and retardation kicks in.

Justin, was he right for doing it? NO. I hate nothing more than someone that does this, might as well be a thief in my book! True it might be a public spot but seeing a guy catch one then poach his spot is as low as they come.

That said its the way times have gotten, and when its done to me im not the guy that doesn't say something People need to be told they are wrong.

No doubt that was rude. I think I might have let him catch a fish or two and then probably said something to the effect of "Hey buddy, I was fishing right there. You mind?" Nothing too rude in saying that. Wouldn't be out of line for a business owner. My other option would likely be to just start talking his ear off, tell him about your problems, maybe make up some gross medical condition that you or your wife have and describe it in detail. Be real friendly like about it and just annoy him until he leaves. Make it a point to say how glad you are he came along so you had someone to talk to.

You almost nailed it Jack, I would add after you have talked, ask him if he would like to here you sing a Porter Wagner hits medley............or if you can yodel an Elton Britt medley. Long time ago I fished with a guy who claimed he never had problems with people crowding him. When they got near them he would start singing about the Carol County Accident.......

EG, that is hilarious! LMAO!

No doubt about it, if I really want to fish a certain stretch but there is a guy up there yodeling, I am definitely gonna pass or at least wait for him to leave.

Thanks for all the good advice. I think next time when I get to my spot I'll just start a conversation with an imaginary fishing buddy, give high fives when I catch one and act like a crazy person

Right on!

O you could just spare yourself all the pretentious drama by keeping a few key details to yourself, or between close friends, and encourage others to do the same. :)

I didn't count myself but was told that there were 9-13 white bass hotspotter posts on this site alone in the last 48 hours. Wow!
