Don't know the full story but it sounds like a slap on the wrist only.

It’s time for an intervention;

Scott, dude, it’s going to be ok, in time society will advance ever so slightly, with help from above and generational change the idiot poaching culture will be a memory and Smallmouth Bass will again have the chance to grow to adulthood. Be it ever so fantastical we must keep the faith.

His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

Yep, just what I was thinking.....Can't quit fishing, and I'm betting and hoping you won't. You sure shouldn't go and sell of all your gear, because when you come to your senses, it will be a hassle and quite expensive to buy a bunch of new stuff.

There are plenty of ignorant people that don't care about our smallmouth. Consequently, there aren't a whole lot of trophy fish around here. But there are still hundreds of really pretty smallmouth streams with admittedly less than huge fish and there are not a lot of ways to make you feel better about life than fishing for them. You know this as well as anyone, clearly. Once fishing has become a huge part of your life giving it up will be a HUGE loss. You're talking to someone who hasn't gotten out nearly enough lately and it's a really crappy feeling. Make that permanent and NEVER getting out and that's going to be really bad. Maybe it's not the same for you, but that's just how I feel about it.

Otherwise, have fun doing whatever you're going to do that you think will replace fishing. But in my experience, it simply doesn't work that way.

I call Bull$#!T, SB I hereby challenge you to try.

If I ever quit fishing you might as well dig a hole, or alert the buzzards....cuz it wont be long 'til one or the other is needed.
