LittleRedFisherman Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Guess I Better Change My Username There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
ollie Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I read that today as well and just shook my head. Even my wife thought it was stupid. I liked how they couldn't replace the term, 'manhole cover". Score one for us! hahaha "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
ness Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 keep it going Brian. If you cross Lilley's line, he will let you know. A hell of a lot of folks concur with you, but don't have the guts to say it, to stay PC. The boat is tilting left big time, sometimes you need to move the weight in the boat to the right side to balance it out. No doubt a lot of folks concur with the sentiment -- but that's not the point. It's the language that's over the line. Phil has made it pretty clear that he'd like it 'family friendly' around here. The language Brian has used here -- in more than one thread -- is just wrong. If you're ok with that part of it too, well, congrats on keeping your fingers from typing something like it. John
ness Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Back to the topic at hand -- the thing that chaps me about all this is the effort and money that's being wasted rewriting legislation. Once again, the legislators are worrying about the wrong things, and the lawyers will be the ONLY ones who benefit. John
Al Agnew Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Note to Brian...my wife sometimes, not always, uses a hyphenated name. Guess what? I have no problem with that, and in fact encouraged her to do so. Having lived with her quite happily for over 30 years, I think I know where she's coming from by using the hyphenated name, and unless you've lived with a woman in a similar manner, I'd bet you don't have a clue. In fact, unless you're a woman trying to live in what has always been a man's world, you don't have a clue. And to tell you the truth, I'm extremely sick and tired of all this pure hatred. I have no wish to converse with you further on it, and will ignore anything else you have to say on the subject. All I can say in closing is that it's a good thing we are only reading this stuff on the net, and I didn't hear you say that face to face. As for going for gender neutral language IN STATE STATUTES, I think that a lot of it, but not all of it, is much ado about nothing. Some of it is so far embedded in the language that it DOES sound stupid to try to change it, but some of it, when it comes to the law, does make a lot of sense. Remember, this is legal language. The legal language is supposed to be as accurate as possible, so when the language says "fisherman", it certainly implies that it is regarding male "fishers" only. Nowhere does the changing of the statutes require YOU to use gender neutral language in your everyday speech...so exactly how does it affect you, except as something to get your panties in a twist about?
grizzly Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Brian, I think you really need to focus on your own issues. Even your picture is racially offensive. There is a difference between having an opinion and being offensive, and you easily cross it with your language...
moguy1973 Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 So what do they call women in Washington State? Wo? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
strangercreek Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Am I the only one who is annoyed that some goof offs in some branch of government somewhere have enough free time to worry about something so stupid, on your dime? This kind of thing really indicates a lot of problems if you just stand back and look at it......wow
joeD Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Remember, trends start on the coasts, and migrate inward. Sorry, trends is the incorrect word. Life as we know it should have been the correct phrase.
Mitch f Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Well, my wife kept her last name when we got married, it's a Chinese thing. I don't care in the least....she's my wife and everyone knows it. Also, my daughter also has a Chinese middle name. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
