ness Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I like my Simms rubber-soled ones. They work in all 50 states. I haven't had them on all types of stream beds, but I think they're much better for a lot of things. I really notice a difference on wet grass or slippery banks when I'm getting in and out of the stream. They've done well on standard gravel with occasional larger rocks. I guess the real test would be the slimy bedrock portions of NFOW. John
Gavin Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Got the rubber soled Simms last year...haven't had to add the studs yet...even on the NFoW. I probably should have switched earlier.
ness Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 That's good to know, Gavin. I kinda had the same thought -- that I should have switched sooner. My boots go a lot of other places besides slippery stream rocks. I've probably busted my arse more times getting in and out of the water than I have in the water. Wet felt doesn't grip at all on wet grass, mud, logs, whatever. tjm 1 John
Members UncleBobby Posted November 5, 2019 Members Posted November 5, 2019 I have a pair of Sims Guide felt soled boots that are at least 10 years old. I lived in Colorado when I got them and fished waters that I know had whirling disease. I stopped using them a few years before I moved back home to Arkansas. Bottom line is these boots have not been in any water in at least seven years. I'm an old man now and not so sure on my feet, especially in a slippery stream. These are such nice, comfortable boots that I would like to fish with them again. Are they safe after 7 or 8 years of being completely dry? Thanks ahead of time. Bob

Cuz a group of scientists, the ones everybody wanted to hear from, jumped to a conclusion....and then stopped further research. There's no going back now! The funding for THAT ONE has ended.
tjm Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Actually Vermont went back in 2016. I think that leaves five states with a ban and with the science now saying the stuff is native every where in the Northern Hemisphere. I don't see why more bans would be expected. Add phosphorus. Too many other porous materials aren't banned for it to make any difference, pants, canvas waders, sneakers, socks, braided line etc etc ... laker67, fishinwrench and Daryk Campbell Sr 3

I personally waded in it in The White River and drove to Taney the same day. Way before the ban. Heck we would stop at Montauk and the Current river all the time on the way back from the infected White.
fishinwrench Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 If didymo or zebra mussels have decimated a fishery I haven't heard about it yet. I bet a million+ was spent on propaganda about each, signs, stickers, magazines ect., and probably 3x that spent studying each. All quiet now, and ready for the next big scare. laker67 1
