Old plug Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I do not really care what the excuse is for closings. But at the belly of the beast is the congress in Washington I bet.
*T* Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Congress? Didn't know this site was meant for political discussion. If so I have a few comments. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I don't see where bring up congress or the federal government is necessarily political. If they aren't doing their job then it's beyond party. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Old plug Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 It was not political post. Congress has not approved enough money to run a whole lot of things so its is money. Not being there for it.
*T* Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Last I heard we were $17,000,000,000,000 or more in debt with much higher unfunded liabilities and continuing to borrow from our enemies. Need focused spending cuts. Guess we get what we deserve through who we elect. Sorry, I'll stick to fishing commentary in the future. "Water is the driving force of all Nature." -Leonardo da Vinci
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I don't think it's money as much as it is near sightedness by the Corp. They have this mentality that service can't be reduced in some districts. We, my extended family, go to a Corp part at Pomme every September. The park no longer picks up trash, it has to be carried to a dumpster and they quit cutting the grass. It's a terrible burden to haul our trash to the dumpster, but we prevail. I think they could find a way to keep parks open. If they give someone water, electricity and sewer in turn for being a watchmen, keeping litter picked up and doing some trimming the cost would be negligible. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Bill Babler Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Wayne, that is simply not even going to think about happening. Mow grass, pickup trash and oversee the park for electricity and water? Where do I sign up? Kids around here want between 20 and 30 dollars an hour to mow grass. If they don't get it from you they get it from your neighbor. To ask adults to manage a Corp park and do maintenance for electricity and found, would not have happened 30 yrs. ago, let alone today. Very rarely do I see more than a truck or two at the most at Joe Bald. Mostly dock builders. Yes maybe that would be the deal. Charge them a fee to build docks there and see what happens. It has just gotten to expensive to maintain everything. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
bfishn Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Gate attendant and maintenance contracts are awarded to the qualified low bidder at FedBizOpps; https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=agency&mode=form&id=63dd2680762c21c611c41c2499b507c5&tab=offices&tabmode=form&tabid=f70a7f8db2af9d9959199f9edbb5c4c2&subtab=notices&subtabmode=list There are several contracts currently bidding, so they're not completely out of money. I know two couples that have done it for years, and they seem to like it. I can't dance like I used to.
Champ188 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I don't see the place being used either. It's almost always a Saturday or Sunday when I'm on the lake and there's never more than a truck or two there and usually none.
vernon Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Again, please just contact the District Public Affairs Officer and quit with the guessing, speculation, rock throwing and conspiracy theory. Unless of course you're simply not interested in the facts and would rather just make stuff up. Never let the facts stand in the way of a good story I guess.
