mic Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I curious if anyone uses spinner blades other then silver and gold. If so when? I've read that some folks use white in clear water when you wanted a reduced flash. I'm also curious about using gun metal...specifically for inlines for trout and small water smallmouths. Finally, anyone using the blades with the fish prints on them?
Flysmallie Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Black at night. Other than that just the plain old nickel and gold.
fishinwrench Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Experimented with that alot when Mark Twain (hands down the best SB lake I know of) was in its heyday... but it never paid off. Silver or Gold always, even though at one time I threw nothing but copper if it was a tandem Colorado model because I won a tourney using one during a time that everyone participating was throwing spinnerbaits..... which means less than nothing, but you know how things like that can control your mind. LOL
Mitch f Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I have used white and chartreuse blades up in the Great Lakes with good success on Smallmouth "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Jerry Rapp Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 this got me to thinking (now I have a head ache, thanks), but I used to use spinnerbaits with chartruese blades and matching skirts quite a bit. It was a pretty good combo, especially very early in the morning and in early spring with murky, warming water. Might have to try one again. Thanks for re-opening that brain cell.
fishinwrench Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Jerry, Seriously? If the success was even remotely favorable you wouldn't have to be reminded! I bet those old chartreuse bladed spinnerbaits are buried somewhere that you don't even wanna go, with rotten matted skirts laying under them. LMAO!
Gavin Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Mostly Silver, Gold, and Black...have some with White, Chartruese, and Flo. Orange for dingy water.
Quillback Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 White has worked for me in very stained water. But usually silver/brass.
Jerry Rapp Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I will find them wrench, and you are correct, they won't be pretty. Will put new skirts on them, and repaint the blades if need be. Most of them didn't even have ball bearing swivels, and that may have contributed to their success also. Different vibration frequency? Wait, we are talking about a fish with a brain smaller than my little toe's toenail. Never mind.
mic Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Jerry, to much information... Don't need visions of your toe everytime I bust out a spinner.
