Members Kenny Gann Posted September 18, 2013 Members Posted September 18, 2013 Thinkin about investing and I do mean invest in some megabass jerk baits for this winter's fishing.I don't own any at all and the price they are I would be appreciate any help as far as model numbers and colors that work best on Table Rock. If there are jerkbait's out there that are comparable to Megabass let me know what they are. Thanks for the help.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 i like the Lucky Strike RC STX in Pro Blue. about 7.99. Real close to a megabass in my opinion, the hooks suck they break real easy
*T* Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Don't hear too many good comments about Lucky Craft lately but seems like one of the BASS derbies at TR 2 or 3 years ago was won on Deep Pointer100s & 78s in maybe Chartreuse Shad. I personally like them much for bass for numbers & for big fish at TR & LOZ. Great selection colors, sticker hooks, cast great, suspend & work vgood right out of box. $12- $15 a pop. Won a 65 boat, early spring tourney using pointers a few years back 5 fish 4 pound average. Sold me with that bite. Also use LC Staysees, McSticks & Megabass. Guess it boils down to confidence factor. Actually a vgood year round bait. "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
Evolution Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 The luck e strike are as close as you'll get when it comes to 110 but might as well get one of each (110 and strike) and make your own comparison. With the overwhelming color choices from each brand, I would say pro blue is a popular color choice. The split rings on the luck e strike are hit or miss.
abkeenan Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I will 2nd the RC STX by Luck E Strike. They are 1/3 the cost of the megabass and there is no difference aside from the brand name printed on them and the hardware that comes on them which you can replace. Luck E Strike made them as close to the Vision as possible and they did a great job in doing so. Don't let anyone tell you any different either. People that are die hard vision 110 chuckers just won't come to grips that the Luck E Strike version is identical in just about every way. They will claim the action is different....yada yada yada....a bunch of bull if you ask me. That being said I am a SPRO McStick man though and through and that is the jerk bait I tie on 90% of the time. Comes out of the pack with gammy hooks and have only had 1 that didn't suspend perfectly out of the pack that filled with water and SPRO replaced it plus threw in an extra 2 baits for my troubles. They add new colors every year and I have caught fish on just about all colors on the spectrum. Favorites being Norman Flake, Blue Bandit and Chrome Shad. I haven't thrown the ghost patterns I have yet but I would probably suggest you get at least one to try as translucent colors on TR are a good choice.
jolicious Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 If you enjoy painting, you can find some good blanks online
Quillback Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Another RC STX user here. The Rogue Perfect 10 is a bait I plan to fish this winter, I fished it a bit last year, caught some fish on it. Had to put some lead on them to get them to suspend, but they do get down deep, 10 feet or so, and have a unique action. I wish they had some solid colors in addition to the ghost-like lineup they have, I may send a couple off to Tim Hughes to get painted. I really like Tim's Norman Flake.
Members Jozark Posted September 18, 2013 Members Posted September 18, 2013 Throwing a jerk bait is probably my favorite way to fish, and I think Table Rock is one of the best lakes in Missouri to throw one. I am a huge Megabass Vision 110 fan, but you should not limit yourself to one brand because all are a bit different. Size, Depth, Weight, Rattles, ETC.... Please note the Megabass baits are from Japan where finesse is key, so these baits come with great light wire hooks. The down side is I have had them bend out on BIG white bass, and smallmouth, and changed them out with KVD 2X short shanks. Bad Idea! Made the bait sink like a rock, so be careful making adjustments with Vision 110. Size 6 Gammys work fine if you do need to change hooks. QB the Rogue Perfect 10 works well on the rock. Here are my favorites: Megabass Vision 110 Spro Mcstick Jackall Squad Minnow Smithwick Rogue Jackall Soul Shad Lucky Craft Staysee Lucky Pointer

Sprint21fter Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 If you are looking at a jerkbait that is similiar to the Megabass, the RC Sticks are nearly identical plus the price is amazing. Pro Blue, Secret Night, and Cosmic Shad are the colors that work well for me on the Rock. If the fish are deeper I throw Lucky Craft pointers DD models, in Ghost Minnow or Table Rock Shad. Bought some McSticks for this year and to me they look like and act like a short billed rogue. They dart a little bit more than a rogue.
