Wayne SW/MO Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 ....they are safe in that park....you should be more worried about all the fish we caught with gig wounds in the river I wish that were true, but it isn't. Far too many people assume only trout are protected and some don't care. And the area you waded isn't protected, so no safety there.. The giggers are a problem on that river and that is why the fish coming to the spring branch need protection, they're the seed. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Geoff Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Nice fish dude! I never really thought of going to the trout parks for smallies but it makes sense. I need to give you some of the crawfish flies I have, I started tying this one that looks killer in the water and it caught my biggest smallie of the year ( out of the 3 I caught ) "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
moguy1973 Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Anyone know if they get all up in Maramec Springs like that too? Or do they just hang out in that big hole right where the springs dumps in to the river? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Anyone know if they get all up in Maramec Springs like that too? Or do they just hang out in that big hole right where the springs dumps in to the river?See there! Bells are ringing all over the place. Hell yes they run up Meramec! Spring! Roubideax too! (It's better than Bennett, and closer to Smalliebigs, which indicates that HE didn't know....or "think about it") and there's no Orvis sisters hangin' out there! It's no secret so let's just put it out there and get it over with. you should be more worried about all the fish we caught with gig wounds in the riverYeah? Got pics? Let's see that big brown!
XP 590 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 "Orvis Sisters"! That is hilarious, however, having caught lots of fish on 1/132 scuds with indicators, I must say I resemble that remark! Great Smallmouth story, I'm going to have to start chasing them. I remember Charlie Reading telling me they do pile up in zone 3 during the winter, coming out of the Niangua for the relatively warmer water in the spring branch.
