The Death Traps are chemically sharp right out of the package and needle point not cutting point. Much less damage to the fish and also the penetration and sharpness is far beyond anything anyone can do with a file and a sharpener.

Try your cardboard test and you will not be disappointed. Also poke that cutting head clear thru and then the Needle Point death trap and see which one is hardest to extract.

I got a habit that in spite of all my years i still fall into now and then that causes me to loose fish on bass jigs and it might make you think that its your hook. When I am working a jig small hops down steep banks with i have a tendency to raise my fore arm to hop jig down a bit then do not return it to the lower position to take up slack. I just raise it again for another hop. After that the rod is way to high and to far back to far to really get a decent hook set. The habit has cost me dearly believe me. it id the reason I miss them not the hook.

Everyone knows i am sure that a weekgard interferes with hook set as well. I cut part if the bristles if not all off mine either that oor bend them out s bit and spread them. It helps but they can still interfere.

I can understand why Bo needs to carry a file, Because his jigs are extremely hard to snag and you can fish with one jig all day long and never get hung up!

there are jigs designed now that will give you a better hook up, and also be much more snag resistant. ask mitch f.

My problem BO is when I get the arm in that position it almost eliminates all the rook i have to set the hook. I do not mean to imply that I miss a lot of fish because i do not but I was trying to say it was something that could make you think it was the hook.

Hey Old Plug, do you use braid?

MiTCH---- only thing I ever used in the way of braid was fire line on crappie outfits. I only done thst because i could cast it out a bit over a target feed it line and the jig would drop straight down on target. Because the line floated so high. I could see a strike as the line fed out on the water. Everything else is PBS bulk stuff. What I was describing to BO was I get the rod pointed to high and close to my body then there is no room for a hook set. It aggravates me more to do that than loose a fish. You may not understand this but at my age the catching Is not as important as the just fishing. I do use different things like jigs and other baits a little. But I am about the most pure plastic worm fishermen you will ever know. I think at the moment there are about 250 large worms in my locker all in shades of brown. Then there are about a. 200 others from trick worms to a unopened bag of flip tail worms bought in the 60s at Grandpa Pigeons. They had a price on them a bag of 25 that i could not read clearly anymore. Was 4 something for a bag of 25.

I talked to Bo about his jigs.he is sending me one.

You fish those worms in the winter Plug? Just curious if you have much luck on them in the winter. I like to fish worms, but haven't had much luck on them once the water drops below 50 degrees.

I do not any longer fish in the winter. It is just to cold for my old bones. I use the Stic O worms they sell at pro bass up until I stop around November. And I use them sometime in early spring like you would a fluke. I hook them through the head a let them sink. And twitch them. They have a lot of action but its more in one place where a fluke kin of has a mind of its own but i still use flutes then also. I know that worms will work in the winter but its best go take the size down to 6 inches and put it on a jig head and around here bounce it off deep ledges. i also like paddle worms on jig heads.

Just wondering, when sharpening hooks, are you supposed to run the file or hook sharpener in a motion where you're basically sharpening first from further down the hook and on up to the hook point, or are you supposed to go from the hook point further on down the hook?
