I am sure that Smallies have been wintering in and below the trout parks for 100+ years, but the fact that they went mostly overlooked for almost all of that time was obvious.

When I first stumbled onto it myself I put some serious pressure on them. Too much really. After only a single season I could tell that I had effected what was going on there.....And I'm only ONE guy, so......

Since it's all out in the open now I just think what ALSO needs to be out in the open is the realization that probably 80% of the Smallmouth population from a 10+ mile stretch of the river is what you are hacking away at when you find any good wintering groups of Smallmouth.

You've just gotta treat that knowledge responsibly if you give any kind of a $#!t about the river you are on.

I guess I will have to try it down there a few more times during c&r season to see if it looks like opening day of trout season the rest of the winter.....

I take it no issues with ice on parts of Meramec Springs? I might finally get to go tomorrow, if ice isn't a big problem there. I know the BUsh wildlife lakes here are pretty much all still frozen, but they are lakes.

Meramec Springs stays in the 40's all year long since it's fed by a big spring. No worries about ice.

Just what this thread needs, an old, mangy stray cat to stir up trouble! You leave them brown bass alone now you hear and stick to chasing your rainbow fish! :wahaha:

I am glad you posted. Thank you for giving me a lead. Will I ever get a chance to go? , not sure. At the same time, I am happy that people will still use this website for this purpose. One year I will be able to go out and contribute my findings.

I hope you get to make it. You are a good example of why I posted this. Most don't get out to fish enough as it is. When you do get the chance to go out, you want to actually catch some fish and make it worth your while. Fishing is fun, but catching is the real reason we go!

The problem is not so much guys like you on this forum using the website for "leads". The problem is the sheer amount of people with access to the most powerful thing in the world....a search engine

If you google the magic words in this thread, you will soon see why this topic is better left alone. In less than 30 seconds I was locked in to the right spot.
