Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 13, 2014 Root Admin Posted January 13, 2014 What's amazing is that they got it stopped on the short runway at the college's airport. Could have been a major disaster. http://www.ky3.com/news/local/raw-video-authorities-assist-passengers-on-southwest-airlines-jet-at-wrong-branson-airport/-/21048998/23896516/-/rasvboz/-/index.html They had to bring the ladder over from Branson airport to get the 137 people off the plane.
duckydoty Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 They can stop them in real short distances compared to what it will need for a take off. Now let's see them get that thing out of there with only a 3200 foot runway. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
ness Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 That happened in Wichita,Kansas a couple months ago too. Over reliance on the ol' Garmin, I guess. It was a huge 747 variant cargo jet, and they thought it might have trouble taking off, but it did manage. Certainly a black eye for Southwest. John
Quillback Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Flight crew is going to have some 'splainin to do.
Ham Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 That doesn't look good on the eval. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 13, 2014 Author Root Admin Posted January 13, 2014 No one hurt- that's the main thing. Listening to KWTO 560 radio this morning. New guy- don't like him. He's spouting off about the incident without doing any research into what happened. Going on and on about it- telling you to call in but he doesn't stop talking. He was harping about making the passengers sit on the plane for 70 minutes... fact is they had to bring a ladder over from the big airport to safely get them off. See they had to transport something like that 8 miles- 70 minutes is pretty quick. Bad they made a mistake but cuddos to them for getting it stopped on such a short runway.
Quillback Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Yeah good thing it turned out all right in the end. I wonder at what point the crew realized they were landing at the wrong airport and thus a short runway? Somewhere in the process you'd have to recognize what's going on and make that decision to make a quick stop before you run out of runway.

I can't believe how much smarter they are than everybody, yet they are still on small time radio in Missouri. Guess they are just doing it as a favor to us.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I understand that the plane can takeoff with no problem. With drop at the end of the runway he'll be airborne pretty quick if he takes off that way. I've not been on a short runway landing, but I have been on planes, while in the AF, that had to abort takeoffs and they can put some unbelievable pressure on when they do apply the full brakes and reverse engines at the same time. I would imagine the passengers were hanging off of the seat belts. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 After a seat-biting nosedive from a seaplane at age 12 I've found it really easy to avoid boarding any type of aircraft ever again in my life. I don't trust the machine, the guys building/maintaining them, or the ones piloting them. Gravity is a bitch.
